Kiran Rao Shares Her Health Update After Sudden Appendix Surgery, 'I've Been Discharged And I'm...'

Kiran Rao is a popular filmmaker and producer. She was previously married to Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan. A few months ago, she shared a heartbreaking news with her fans, when she revealed that she had to go through an appendix surgery following a sudden health scare. However, just a few days before the New Year, the filmmaker was admitted to the hospital. Well now, Kiran Rao shared her health update on her social media handle.

Kiran Rao has been discharged from hospital

On December 28, 2025, filmmaker, Kiran Rao took to her Instagram handle to share her health update after undergoing an appendix surgery. It is worth mentioning that Kiran shared a series of photos. The first one was a glimpse of the view from her hospital room, while the next showed a selfie of her inside the room. Along with that, she penned a long note, in which he thanked the doctors and mentioned that she has been discharged. A part of her note can be read as:

"Here I was, all ready to party my way into 2026, when my appendix sent me a reminder to slow down, breathe deep, and give thanks. Immense gratitude for: modern medicine (still can’t understand how that whole 12mm dia appendix came out through a 10.5mm catheter, thank God I’m not a doctor), Dr Kayomarz Kapadia and the whole surgical team, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital’s super care."

Kiran Rao continued to reveal that she has been discharged from the hospital and is trying to recover before the New Year. She also hoped that the upcoming year is more kind, fun and full of love towards her. She penned:

"Well, I’ve been discharged and I’m back home, ready to ease myself into the new year. 2025 has been good to me and mine, and here’s hoping 2026 will be kind, fun, full of love - and better AQI - for all. PS – the pics are: views from my hospital room, my Kim K lips, my name on the hospital ID tag, and me enjoying one of my first meals."

Moments after Kiran Rao shared her health update on her Instagram handle, multiple fans shared their concern for the filmmaker. While some thanked their stars that Kiran is doing well, others wished her a speedy recovery. One user commented, "Gosh! So glad to hear you’re better! Much love and healing energy! HNY 2026!" Another user wrote, "Wishing you a speedy recovery." A third user penned, "Good to see you recovering well. Pinkest of health soonest!" A fourth user commented, "Glad to see you all smiling. Wishing you a speedy recovery Kiran." Another user shared, "Glad to see you all well, and smiling through it!"

Kiran Rao is a well-known Indian filmmaker, producer and writer. She was born on November 7, 1973, and studied at Sophia College, Mumbai. It is worth mentioning that before she worked as a director and producer, Kiran was an assistant director. She made her directorial debut with Dhobi Ghat. Over the years, she worked in hit films like Lagaan, Peepli Live, Dangal, Secret Superstar, Laapataa Ladies and more. She was previously married to actor Aamir Khan, and the two have a son, Azad Rao Khan.
