Lola Young, the 24-year-old British breakout star behind the viral 2024 hit Messy, recently gave fans a major scare after collapsing mid-performance at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York City on September 27, 2025 (ET). She was in the middle of performing her song Conceited when she collapsed.
Lola’s health scare came only a day after she cancelled her performance at Audacy's We Can Survive concert on Friday, September 26. Fellow artists present at the event, including Remi Wolf and Doechii, later reassured the tense crowd that Young was doing ‘OK’. The singer herself recently confirmed the same on her Instagram, thanking everyone for their support.
Though the cause of her sudden collapse remains unanswered, the timing of it all has raised questions about how Lola Young is really doing, given her history of health struggles and addiction battle. And we are here to answer all the curiosity about this rising star and her meteoric rise in music.
Lola Young was born on January 4, 2001, in South London to an English mother and a Jamaican-Chinese father. Her mixed roots and creative upbringing played a vital role in her musical talent. Her father was a professional bass player, whose career exposed Young to the world of music at a fairly early age.
Lola’s stepfather was also a musician who helped with her musical education. Her English mother, though not a singer herself, helped create a nurturing environment during her growing-up years, getting her enrolled on singing, guitar, and piano lessons at age six. This artistic background nurtured her love of songwriting, which she began pursuing seriously at just 11 years old.

Growing up in Croydon, popularly known as South London’s diverse and creative hub, Lola’s talent was enriched by a rich cultural mix of her Jamaican-Chinese father and English mother, inheriting a blend of musical traditions, from reggae and soul to classic British pop.
Under the guidance of Amy Winehouse’s former manager, Nick Shymansky, Lola had signed with Island Records by 19, and her career took off from there. Fans, especially Gen Z, loved Young’s raw honesty, textured voice, and refusal to adopt an alter ego for society, which made Young a relatable artist.
In 2024, Lola broke out globally with her hit single Messy, which went viral on TikTok and quickly catapulted her to fame. The track’s music video has racked up over 112 million YouTube views, earned platinum certification, and landed top-10 chart spots in countries including New Zealand, France, and Germany.
The 24-year-old singer has never shied away from openly discussing her battles with mental health. She was only 17 years old when she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, a complex condition that combines the symptoms of schizophrenia and a mood disorder. In 2022, she revealed on Instagram that the diagnosis had profoundly shaped her life. She wrote:
“I can't find the words to describe how much this diagnosis has affected my entire life, and my outlook on the world around me. I have struggled immensely learning to accept this part of myself, and I am still learning.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, patients diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder could go through mania, depression, and psychosis, and the condition requires a combination of therapy and medication. Young revealed that she experiences ‘crazy highs and immense lows’ and also takes medication to help stabilise her symptoms.
Earlier this year, the One Thing singer revealed that she had started medication for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Young shared that starting the medication has been life-changing and improved her focus and overall happiness.
If her mental health struggles were not enough, Young has also battled addiction, and she has been open about the same. In an interview with The Guardian, she admitted to struggling with cocaine addiction for years, even as her career skyrocketed.
Calling her recovery a ‘constant journey’, the Messy hitmaker shared how she was checking into rehab when her song was topping the charts and making her a worldwide sensation. Reflecting on how her addiction battle has shaped her perspective, the 24-year-old shared:
"I’ve definitely had to work on some internal healing while grappling with touring and stuff... But it teaches you a lot, being addicted to substances. It makes you more empathetic about other people that have gone through that. It’s just a constant journey."
Since 2024, Messy has become a Gen Z anthem, with millions relating to the raw lyrics and vibing with the music. The breakout single became a global hit after its release, spending four weeks at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and racking up more than 300 million Spotify streams.
With her rising star power, Lola Young’s fortune also continues to rise. According to Celebrity Net Worth, her net worth as of 2025 is estimated at USD 2 million. Some other outlets estimate her fortune between USD 500,000 and USD 1 million, fueled by record sales, streaming royalties, touring, and brand partnerships.
Young continues to enrich her star power beyond her chart success. The Messy hitmaker has also performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Graham Norton Show, toured the UK and US, and collaborated with major artists. Her live shows regularly sell out, definitely adding to her financial momentum.
On September 27, 2025, Lola Young was performing her track Conceited at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York City when she suddenly fell on stage, prompting medical staff to carry her away for immediate aid. While the crowd was left stunned at the health scare, moments later, fellow performer Remi Wolf reassured the audience:
“That was really f------ scary. My friend Lola is backstage, and she is okay.”
Young herself quickly addressed the incident on social media. Shortly after the health emergency that led her concert to end abruptly, she wrote on her Instagram:
“Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing OK now. Thank you for all of your support.”
Lola Young’s latest project, I’m Only F–ing Myself, dropped on September 19, 2025, just days before her NYC collapse, and is already gaining traction. With three studio albums under her belt and a BRIT Award nomination, she is carving out her place as one of music’s most authentic new voices.
