Hindi cinema saw many theatrical releases and re-releases in February 2025. There was Khushi Kapoor, Junaid Anand, Kunj Anand starrer, Loveyapa on one hand versus Mawra Hocane, and Harshvardhan Rane's, Sanam Teri Kasam on the other. Kunj, who played the role of a shady guy named, Puneet in Loveyapa, opened up on the film's box office numbers amid re-releases like Sanam Teri Kasam in theatre that had a different fan base.
Loveyapa was a film that showcased the story of a modern take on romance and relationships in today's day and age. On one side, when Harshvardhan and Mawra's film, Sanam Teri Kasam, was released in 2016, it did not rake in the box office compared to the skyrocketing numbers that shot in the re-release. During an exclusive interview with BollywoodShaadis, Kunj spoke on the importance of box office numbers when it came to Loveyapa, which had a theatrical release. In his words:
"Important toh hai business hai aur numbers pe chalta hai. Numbers are important. Yeh cheeze control mei hoti nai. Aapko personal experience se bataunga. 3 baar Loveyapa dekhke aaya hu alag alag dosto ke saath, alag field se. I have been to the theatre and no one had one bad review of Loveyapa. Even word of mouth is so good. YouTube reviews are good."
Kunj, who hails from a non-filmy background, going to the interview, shared that undoubtedly, things would have been different for him if he had launched, unlike the other repo kids from the industry. The actor, who has come a long way with his work of craft shared:
"Agar app 100 actor se sawal puchenge wahi jawab denge aur joh nai denge woh ab tak game samjhe nai. Definitely launch hone se game bahut alag hota hai not only in terms of engagement but also in monetary terms. Everything works better for you. Having said that there is also a flip side to it that people do not realise it. You need to give time to fall in love with the craft, and it takes time."
Kunj, who had a small role in Loveyapa, also shared that launched people also see a flip side as everything is about experiments. However, he never had the pressure of working opposite Junaid or Khushi. However, he was blessed to have had work with people who were in their late 20's on the sets. This is because he already carved a niche in the OTT space. As he said:
"Director joh dikhana chahte hai unke sath in tuned raha. Kaam ke kuch ghante hote hai social life aage peeche hoti hai. Mei zyada director ke saath time spend karu. If I am on a film or set these 12 hours, I have to be around the director."
What do you think of Kunj Anand's views on the box office numbers of Loveyapa as Sanam Teri Kasam re-released?
