Madhuri Dixit Shared Why Early Marriage Days With Her Husband Were Difficult, '...Working All Night'

Madhuri Dixit was the top actress in Bollywood during the 90s, and she gave tough competition to other divas with her beauty, acting, and dance skills. She was also India's national crush at the peak of her career, and many actors and other celebrities were obsessed with her. There were also rumours that the actress was dating one of her popular co-stars, though nothing was confirmed. However, Madhuri broke many hearts when she married Dr. Shriram Nene. 

Madhuri Dixit shocked everyone with her marriage to the US-based doctor, who was neither an actor nor did he have any kind of connections with the film industry. The actress surprised the public again by quitting Bollywood after getting married when she was at the peak of her career, as the most coveted actress in the industry, and left for the USA to settle into her new life. But once talking about her marriage, Madhuri Dixit revealed how her life changed after marrying a top heart surgeon. 

Madhuri Dixit and Dr Shriram Nene talked about their early married life when he was completing his medical residency 

Dr Shriram Nene has his own YouTube channel where he shares many health tips and also his family life with Madhuri Dixit and their two sons. In one of the videos, the couple opened up about their marriage and talked about the struggles they faced in the early days. As her husband was a USA resident and was brought up there, Madhuri also relocated to the US to start her domestic life with Dr Nene. However, her life after marriage was filled with ups and downs as Dr Nene was completing his medical residency in Florida and was busy with work for long durations. 

Madhuri Dixit and Dr Shriram Nene revealed that they would go for days without talking to each other 

While talking about this initial period after moving to the US, Madhuri Dixit revealed that Dr Nene would be out, working all night long. His extensive periods of work also did not allow the newlyweds to keep in touch with each other regularly. They would go without talking to each other for long stretches, sometimes Madhuri would also rarely see Dr Nene during these times. Recalling those days, the actress said: 

''You’d be working all night and return home completely exhausted, sometimes skipping meals and just collapsing into bed." 

Madhuri Dixit said that it was difficult to be married to someone with such a demanding profession 

In the YouTube video, Dr Sriram Nene asked Madhuri Dixit about her own experiences of being married to someone in a demanding profession. The actress replied frankly and said that it was difficult. Managing the household and their children alone was very tough on her sometimes. Dr Nene was also absent during many family events or could not be with her when she was sick. Though the doctor doesn't regret the effort he spent in his medical career, Dr Nene admitted that he is aware of the time he has lost that he could have spent with his loved ones. 

Madhuri Dixit said that she is proud of Dr Shriram Nene and that he has a kind heart 

Despite the tough times she went through, managing everything on her own, Madhuri Dixit expressed that she was very proud of her husband, Dr Shriram Nene. She said that as a kind-hearted man, he tried to help her with household work whenever he was free. Even after coming back from work, Dr Nene would take a little rest and do the domestic chores, asking Madhuri to take a break. Talking about her husband's support, the actress said: 

"I was always proud of you. You’re kind at heart. And when you were home, you never hesitated to take over. You’d just ask for a few hours of rest and then tell me to take a break.”

Madhuri Dixit and Dr Shriram Nene moved to India permanently with their two sons 

After living in the USA for over a decade, Madhuri Dixit and Dr Shriram Nene moved back to India with their sons, permanently in 2011. After relocating back to the country, the actress resumed her Bollywood acting career. Dr Nene also started working on healthcare technology and innovations in India. The couple is still going strong, and for Madhuri Dixit's 58th birthday on May 15, 2025, Dr Shriram Nene wrote a heartfelt message for her that said: 

"You've made everything lighter, warmer, and better-just by being you. I'd choose you all over again in a heartbeat."
