Merchant Navy Officer's Wife Hangs Herself In Six Months Of Marriage, Family Alleges Murder, Torture

A 26-year-old lady, just six months into her marriage with a Merchant Navy Officer, reportedly died by suicide at her house in Lucknow. The name of the deceased was Madhu Singh, whose family has now been accused of murdering her and making the scene look like a suicide. According to a report by India Today, Madhu's family has alleged that her husband, Anurag Singh, harassed her for dowry and also abused her physically many times. Now, Madhu's dad has also filed a case at the police station of Sushant Golf City.

Deceased Madhu Singh's family claims of dowry harassment and physical torture

It was on February 25, 2025, when Madhu got married to Anurag. He has been a second officer in the Merchant Navy. Things became ugly when Anurag reportedly pestered Madhu for a Rs. 15 lakh dowry and also hurled abuses at her. Priya, who is Madhu's sister, also claimed that Anurag used to assault her physically over little issues. She was also beaten for not putting the plate properly. Priya had also said that Madhu had once called her as she cried, begging for help. Priya shared that Madhu told her:

"Come quickly, or he will kill me."

Priya reported that Madhu had called her, begged for help one day over the phone, and then shared the incident with her entire family. She also alleged that Anurag used to force Madhu to also drink alcohol and would also beat her if she did not do the same. Priya claimed that Madhu loved going to social parties, outings but due to Anurag she was confined in the house and was not even allowed to step outside. Priya alleged that Madhu always kept a tab on her social media accounts and phone. He had also abused her in the past as she was speaking to Priya and even accused his own wife of being a lesbian.

Madhu Singh reportedly was forced to drink a day before her death

Madhu reportedly died by suicide on August 4, 2025. A day before that, the pair had gone out in Anurag's car, and the family of Madhu alleged that Anurag forced her to drink and drive the car. Madhu was on the wheels reportedly and saved the vehicle as it was entering a pothole. However, Madhu's family alleged that Anurag had accused her of being distracted by boys on the road and inside the vehicle, she was beaten.

Anurag Singh's family denies strong allegations

Now, the family of Anurag has denied all the allegations and alleged that Madhu was found hanging at 4 p.m. on August 4, 2025. They had informed her dad immediately about the same. However, Madhu's family alleged that by the time they had reached Anurag had already got the body down. The family raised questions about the timing of the alleged incident. They alleged that Anurag had left for an assignment on April 30, 2025, but returned unexpectedly on July 22, 2025. The family of Madhu shared that Anurag had told them that he would come back after six months. Madhu's dad did add:

"Why did he return early, and how did Madhu die so soon after?"
