The Pima County police and the FBI are looking at the case with priority, suspecting kidnapping. Amid that, a viral video surfaced claiming that Nancy Guthrie's body was found by authorities in a pond near her hometown. Here's the fact-check of the claims.

The speculation that Savannah's mom, Nancy Guthrie was no more originated from a viral YouTube Short posted by an account named @SeanPilant around February 23, 2026. The video featured footage showing law enforcement officers appearing to carry a body. A text overlay on the video contained an explosive claim. The ticker could be read as, "Nancy Guthrie's body was found." According to the video, her remains were discovered at a pond near her home in Catalina Foothills. The voiceover on the visuals claimed that the dead body was found on February 21, 2026 and was recently identified as Nancy Guthrie's.

Did the body actually belong to Nancy Guthrie?

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and federal investigators have confirmed that Nancy Guthrie has not yet been located, despite offers of a USD 100,000 reward. The video shared by @SeanPilant (and similar accounts on TikTok) showing law enforcement carrying a body is inaccurate. An X (formerly Twitter) user shared a screenshot of the video, calling it "disgusting" for sharing such misleading information about a sensitive topic. Sharing the link of the video, the online user commented:

"Nancy Guthrie's body was found floating in a pond near Catalina Foothill...via @YouTube @JLRINVESTIGATES this came up on my timeline it's bloody disgusting why would anyone do this?"

How far has the investigation regarding Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping reached?

Recently, investigators recovered DNA from Nancy's property that does not belong to her or anyone in close contact with her, i.e., immediate family members. A separate DNA was found on a black glove found approximately two miles from Nancy's home. This glove was believed to match those worn by a masked intruder seen on the victim's doorbell camera. Amid that, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, stated that unravelling the kidnapping case might take a significant amount of time, spanning weeks, months, or even a year. However, he assured that the officials would not give up on the case, no matter how long it took.

Another important development in the case was that investigators deployed a specialised signal sniffer mounted on helicopters to detect the specific Bluetooth signal emitted by Nancy Guthrie's pacemaker. However, President, Trump slammed the publicising of the search method before the process began. Calling the move "crazy", he stated that it may have inadvertently warned Nancy's abductors. Trump suggested this could lead them to take drastic measures, such as harming Nancy, to prevent the device from being detected.

Recently, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, officially cleared Nancy Guthrie's family members as suspects in her disappearance. The sheriff's department released a statement emphasising that the Guthrie family have been 100 per cent cooperative in Nancy's search process and are considered victims in the case. The clearance covers Nancy's children, Savannah, Annie, and Camron Guthrie, as well as their respective spouses, including Tommaso Cioni and Michael Feldman.
