Bollywood actress, Parineeti Chopra tied the knot with her politician husband, Raghav Chadha on September 2023, officially breaking her pledge to ‘never marry’ a politician. The couple had a dreamy yet grand wedding in Udaipur, at The Leela Palace, with their close family and friends. While it was indeed a lavish affair, many details from their ceremony were exaggerated by the media, which created the impression that it was excessively extravagant. Now, more than a year later, the couple addressed these speculations.
Parineeti and Raghav recently appeared on an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, hosted by Rajat Sharma. While exchanging fun anecdotes from their married life, the couple addressed the buzz surrounding the expenses of their wedding and called it a wrong narrative. Raghav was quick to dismiss allegations that their wedding featured exorbitantly priced rooms. Setting the record straight, he said:
“First of all, it wasn’t a 7-star hotel. It was a 5-star hotel. There was a total of 40-50 rooms, and we had booked them all for the guests. None of the rooms cost Rs 10 lakh, as is being alleged.”
Meanwhile, Parineeti Chopra addressed the public scrutiny she faced after marrying a politician. She highlighted the stark contrast in how people perceive weddings depending on the profession of the spouse. The Chamkila star remarked:
“Agar maine ek actor, producer, businessman se shaadi ki hoti, to wo bolte, ‘Waah yaar! Ye actress ki badi shaandaar shaadi hui hai. Aisi hi honi chahiye’. But kyunki ek neta se shaadi hui hai, toh suddenly kharcha sirf neta ne akele ne uthaaya aur wo itni mehengi shaadi to kar nahi sakta. I think somewhere ye trolling and investigation ka jo mind hota hai voters ya fans ka wo inki duniya mein zyada hai.”
Parineeti opened up about being trolled and how people have been keeping a close watch on her spending since the wedding. Slamming the trolls, she shared:
“Is shaadi se pehle main chaahe gaadi, ghar, kuch bhi khareedu, it's understandable. Sudenly shaadi ke baad paise hi gayab ho gaye. Suddenly ab main kharcha nahi kar sakti. It’s just perception.”
When Parineeti first met Raghav at an event in London, she did not recognise the politician at that time but realised that he was famous. Further in the show, Aap Ki Adalat, Parineeti recalled that after meeting him, she decided to look him up online. It was then that she decided that Raghav was the guy she wanted to marry. Cut to 2023, Parineeti and Raghav’s wedding became one of the most talked-about celebrity events of 2023, with rumours of exorbitant costs grabbing headlines.
