Cannes 2025: Payal Kapadia, Indian Director, EXUDES Boss Vibes In Deconstructed Plaid Suit

Famous Indian director and screenwriter Payal Kapadia has arrived at the 78th Festival Of Cannes, the world's biggest film festival, from May 13, 2025 until May 24, 2025. Back in 2024, Payal was the first Indian lady director to take part in the main event competition of the Cannes Film Festival. Her drama movie, All We Imagine As Light, was the first Indian film to reach the stage in 2024. Now, in 2025, Payal has come as a jury member and for the Cannes opening ceremony, she was seen in a 'Power Suit'.

Payal Kapadia exuded boss lady vibes on the red carpet of Cannes 2025

Payal looked like a perfect boss lady as she slayed on the red carpet of the Festival de Cannes. Her power suit was basically a deconstructed plaid suit, which was styled by costume designer and fashion stylist, Indrakshi Pattana. Payal in Rishta by Arjun Saluja looked royal in the power suit. Now, Indrakshi, in an interview with News 18, spoke about Payal's look and revealed that the director loved the power style dressing of the '80s. Indrakshi shared:

"Payal [Kapadia] is a dear friend. She loves the 80s power suit style and I really wanted to explore that in her look. And Arjun [Saluja] was the best person to execute the vision. Arjun and I have been meaning to collaborate for a while for Payal and I am glad it all fell into place."

Indrakshi also shared that Payal wanted her look to be comfortable so that she could attend the movie screenings as a jury member fuss free. For Payal, comfort was of utmost importance, and it was like character designing for her, making her look like herself. Given this year’s dress code theme, which said no sheer, no over the top, no voluminous styles, Payal kept it minimal yet chic.

Payal teamed up her grey suit with statement silver earrings. It consisted of a multi-layered pendant-type necklace, a choker from Tribe by Amrapali. Speaking of Payal's Folktale Layered Masaba Thread necklace, the masterpiece was created in silver plated alloy, and the look was inspired by the Akan Tribe of West Africa. The statement necklace shelled out edgy vibes while The Charu Thread Choker was made in silver and had an oxidised finish with ghungroo-type droplets.

Payal at the 78th Festival de Cannes was seen with Carlos Reygadas, Leila Slimani, Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong, Juliette Binoche, Dieudonne Hamadi, Alba Rohrwacher and Hong Sang at the opening ceremony. For the elite jury photocall, Payal was seen in a handwoven silk attire, which Payal Khandwala designed. The shades of red and blue added a colourful pop to Payal's elegance and comforting style. Payal has come back to the Cannes Film Festival after a historic win in 2024. At the jury call event, Payal was seen with Cannes jury president and French cinema star, Juliette Binoche, and Halle Berry.

Speaking more of Cannes 2025, Indian stars like Janhvi Kapoor, Ishan Khatter, Nitanshi Goel, Shalini Passi, Simi Grewal, Sharmila Tagore, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Jacqueline Fernandez are a few stars who are expected to set the red carpet on fire at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
