Prateik Babbar tied the knot with the love of his wife, Priya Banerjee, on February 14, 2025, in a private ceremony. The duo had been dating for more than a year, and fans were delighted to see the inside pictures from their special day. But the wedding came under the scanner when Prateik's half-siblings, Arya and Juhi Babbar, revealed that they weren't invited to the wedding along with their parents. They took a dig at the actor for not even inviting their father, Raj Babbar, to the big day. Prateik has remained silent through all the accusations. But recently in a new interview, the actor broke his silence on why he didn't invite his father and their family to his wedding.
Prateik Babbar is the son of veteran actor, Raj Babbar and Smita Patil. He recently sat down for an interview with Times Now, wherein he opened up about the controversy which took place after he didn't invite his father, Raj Babbar and step siblings to his wedding in February 2025. The actor revealed that his late mother, Smita Patil, had a complicated relationship with his father's first wife, Nadira. Since he got married at his late mother's home, he felt it wouldn't be 'ethical' to invite his father and their family on the big day. In his words:
"My father's wife and my mother had some complications in the past; lots of things have been said in the press and stuff like that if you dig out 38-40 years ago. I was open to doing something with my father and his family for another function. I just thought it was unethical to have him and his family at that house after everything had gone on between them. Absolutely, it wasn't right."
For those unaware, Raj Babbar was already married to Nadira Babbar with two kids when he fell in love with Smita, who died due to childbirth complications. Prateik didn't want to offend anyone and decided to honour his mother because she had bought that house. Consequently, he felt it was the best decision for him and his wife. Sharing his thoughts on Arya and Juhi Babbar's dig at him, he said:
"People are impulsive, people make impulsive choices and say things out of impulse, and it was just distasteful, and I think that bitter taste has remained. That bitter taste has remained. The right thing to do was to do what we did, and then if, obviously, now circumstances are different, everything is gone South and it's extremely complicated. But it's not for me. I'm still the same."
Prateik Babbar used to share a cordial bond with his father, Raj Babbar and his step-siblings, Arya and Juhi, after growing up. But after news reports about Prateik's wedding emerged, Arya sat down for an interview with the Times Of India and shared that he was surprised at not being invited to the latter's wedding. He admitted that he couldn't understand why the actor didn't want to maintain a bond with them but believed that someone might have influenced Prateik's mind. In his words:
"I give him this benefit of the doubt. My mother is the one who made this dysfunctional family into a functional one. Even if you don't wish to call my mother, at least Dad should have been called. Life is no less than a film; someone in the house is influencing him. I don't want to think it is Prateik, and I don't think he is like that."
Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony at his mother, late actress, Smita Patil's residence. The couple wore ivory-hued custom outfits from Tarun Tahiliani. It was a joyous occasion, and Prateik was seen shedding tears of happiness. In an interview with Vogue India, he mentioned that they had a dream about his mother, Smita, who wanted them to tie the knot at her home. So, they made the call to seek not just her but even his grandparent's blessings.
