Raanjhanaa, the tale of unrequited love, directed by Aanand L Rai, won many hearts years back in 2013. The 2013 romantic drama, starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, was not only a box-office hit movie but has also become a cult classic over the years. With its immensely popular storyline, the makers have thought to revive the blockbuster film and make a sequel. Dhanush, who portrayed the role of 'Kundan', a lover boy who was madly in love with 'Zoya', played by Sonam, will be seen as 'Shankar', an exact opposite of his previous chocolate boy image.
Dhanush, who made his Hindi film debut with the movie Raanjhanaa, will be seen in its sequel, Tere Ishk Mein. Earlier this year, in 2025, T-Series shared glimpses of 'Shankar', starring Dhanush, and 'Mukti', played by Kriti Sanon, from the upcoming movie. Ever since the project was announced by the makers, fans have been left in a frenzy and eagerly waiting to know when and where to watch the movie. The much-anticipated sequel is scheduled to hit theatres on November 28, 2025.
Earlier this month, when T-Series shared glimpses of Dhanush and Kriti’s characters in Tere Ishk Mein, it gave a clear indication that the duo were romantically connected. The upcoming sequel is set in the same world as the 2013 hit film, Raanjhanaa. In the teaser featuring 'Shankar', portrayed by Dhanush, a dialogue of Kriti, "Shankar ishq mein sirf ladke hi marte hain kya? Kuch ladkiya bhi kaleja karti hain jaan dene ka", immediately echoed in the voiceover, after 'Shankar' throws a flaming bottle at a wall and sets fire, clearly stating the idea of the makers of reviving a tale of requited love.
Earlier in an interview with PTI, director, Aanand L Rai talked about the film, Tere Ishk Mein. He shared that although there are some similarities between Raanjhanaa and Tere Ishk Mein, both are different stories. He revealed that both are tragedies, marked by anger and rage. He was quoted as saying:
"When I say the world of Raanjhanaa, I’m talking from the maker's perspective, that I’m spending on the emotions which were there in Raanjhanaa. Similarly, both are tragedies, both have anger and rage. Love stories are layered, it is not a straight man-woman thing. That’s why I say it is from the world of Raanjhanaa as it has got both. But both are different stories."
The upcoming sequel of Raanjhanaa, Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, is directed by Aanand L Rai. The plotline and the rest of the cast of the film are still under wraps. The film is produced by Aanand L Rai, Himanshu Sharma, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar. Music maestro, AR Rahman is also behind this project.
