Rajesh Khanna Changed His Will Before Death, Excluded Ex-Wife, Dimple Kapadia From Rs. 600 Cr Wealth

The first superstar of Hindi cinema, Rajesh Khanna, was every woman’s dream man. Women would flock around his car to get a glimpse of the handsome actor. Rajesh Khanna is the only actor who has sparked hysteria among his female fans. Women would write letters to him with their blood and would even get married to his photograph.

But when Rajesh Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in 1973, it broke the hearts of his female fans. Rajesh was 16 years older than Dimple, and she considered herself the luckiest woman to get married to him. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinkle Khanna. Despite being madly in love, Dimple and Rajesh’s marriage couldn’t stand the test of time, and they parted ways in 1982.

In 2011, Rajesh Khanna’s health deteriorated, and he was diagnosed with cancer. The superstar faced his inevitable death with grace, just like the character he played in the film, Anand. Just a month before his death, Rajesh prepared his will and signed it. When Rajesh Khanna passed away on July 18, 2012, he left a huge fortune behind him, but not a single penny was given to his ex-wife, Dimple Kapadia.

It is estimated that Rajesh Khanna’s estimated wealth during the time of his death was around Rs. 600 crores, including his iconic bungalow, Aashirwad. However, his entire wealth was transferred to his two daughters, Twinkle and Rinkle. The exclusion of Dimple from Rajesh’s wealth raised many eyebrows.

Amid all this, another controversy broke when Rajesh Khanna’s live-in partner, Anita Advani, claimed her rights in his property, stating that she took care of him during his ‘loneliest phase’. Anita, who called herself Rajesh’s ‘surrogate wife’, stated that she was legally bound to get his wealth as she played a crucial role in taking care of him, managing his home and even keeping karwa chauth fast for him.

Why did Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia separate?

Before marrying Dimple Kapadia, Rajesh Khanna was in a steady relationship with actress, Anju Mahendru. However, they parted ways, and he married Dimple. After a few years of his marriage to Dimple, Rajesh Khanna’s stardom started fading away as his movies were not doing that well in the 70s and 80s. As a result, the superstar couldn’t handle the failure, and it affected his relationship with Dimple. Besides many attempts, Dimple couldn’t mend her failing marriage, and as a result, she left him in 1984 and later admitted that marrying a superstar was a wrong decision.

Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna’s strained relationship had become the top news for the tabloids back then. Despite her marriage turning sour, Dimple Kapadia never spoke ill of Rajesh Khanna. In a 2017 article, Dimple was quoted as saying:

“Kaka (Rajesh Khanna) has been consistently misunderstood. He’s a wonderful guy. I was far too young and impetuous when we married. We may have separated, but I still have tremendous regard and love for him. So don’t you dare try to extract any nasty statements from me. Kaka’s superstardom had to be experienced to be believed.”

Though Rajesh and Dimple separated, they never got divorced for the sake of their daughters.
