Ranbir Kapoor is currently one of the most popular actors in Bollywood. He is currently shooting for his much-anticipated Nitesh Tiwari's directorial, Ramayana, which will tentatively be released in 2027. Apart from that, Ranbir has the second instalment of Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal Park in his pipeline. Amid all these, one of Ranbir's old interviews went viral on social media, wherein he talked about the ruthless treatment he got from the Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar's director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the former's debut film shoot.
For the unversed, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor made their acting debut in Bollywood with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film, Saawariya, released in 2007. However, much later, when Ranbir graced Neha Dhupia's podcast, No Filter Neha in 2016, he opened up about his experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali during his debut film's shoot. Ranbir explained how Sanjay had thrashed him so much on the sets of the film that he once felt extremely tortured and wanted to quit. In Ranbir's words:
"He (Bhansali) was a hard task-master and I was kneeling down on set, he was beating me...after a point it got so heavy and I felt so tortured that I had to quit the film at a point...I think it was like 10 or 11 months into my job and I am like ' listen I cant do this, its getting to me'."

In the same conversation, the actor also revealed that Sanjay might have understood his sensitive and emotional side, and thus, the latter kept on poking him for the same. Ranbir added that at one point of their shoot, the filmmaker went crazy. However, Ranbir mentioned that it was Sanjay's thrashing, just like an old-school teacher, that taught him everything in terms of acting. Ranbir shared:
"I think I am too sensitive and emotional and he got to know me so well and he kind of kept poking into that... he got too much, went crazy as far as I was concerned. Having said that, I think all my performances that I do in cinema, it all comes from that experience, from him ...he was a true teacher in that sense...he taught me everything in terms of acting and emotions and stuff like that."
As soon as the piece of the interview from Ranbir and Neha's chat surfaced on the Reddit platform, netizens started reacting to it. While one social media user wrote, "He has issues. he sounds horrible to work for. you do not need to abuse people to get the best out of them", another mentioned, "No wonder Richa said he breaks your ego. He sounds sadistic and abusive...makes sense why he's still so fond of Salman then." One more user commented, "He gave gaalis to Richa and threw a microphone at her because she wasn’t getting the steps (allegedly)."

Soon after Sonam and Ranbir acted together in their film, Saawariya, rumours started surfacing on the media that they were dating. Years later, when Sonam graced the chat show, Koffee With Karan, she was asked by Karan to "Rank in order of s*x appeal – Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham." To this, the actress shared that she would keep Ranbir, in the fifth position. Revealing the reason behind the same, the actress mentioned that Ranbir is a great actor but not sexy. However, soon, the actress tried to mend her words and said that she finds Ranbir sexy only when he strips. She stated:
"No, I mean, only when he strips, you know? Jab Se Tere Naina, he used to take off his clothes. I had no choice, I was there at the shoot."
