Ratan Tata is a name that generations will remember, courtesy of his philanthropic and amazing business policies and work. He is an industrialist who lived a life full of dignity and devoted himself to the betterment of society and its people, along with the pets. Talking about his personal life, Ratan Tata never married. Recently, Ratan Tata's biographer, Thomas Mathew, opened up about details of Ratan Tata's love story, which was left incomplete.
Ratan Tata, who is termed as 'Lighthouse' by his best friend, Shantanu Naidu, is known for his public achievements, but not many know about his love story, which began in Los Angeles but ended heartbreakingly. It is a chapter, which is beautifully written by biographer, Thomas Mathew.

Recently, in an interview with NDTV, Mathew revealed that Ratan Tata fell in love in the early years of his life. In the 1960s, when he was in California, he met Caroline Jones, who became his first girlfriend. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture in 1962 and worked in an architecture firm when he met Caroline.
However, things would have been different if Ratan Tata would not have come back to India. The industrialist had to return to India as his grandmother was not well. While his girlfriend, Caroline, was ready to join him, the Indo-China war scared her and she had no guts to come to India. Mathew said:
"In 1962, he wanted to come back because his mother was not keeping well. He came back, and Caroline was supposed to join him. In 1962, India was a distant place for Americans, and the war with China scared every American, so she did not have the guts to come to India."
Rata Tata loved his grandmother a lot, and he had thought of moving back to India temporarily for his grandmother, who wasn't keeping well. Ratan Tata had thought that his girlfriend would support him in his decision and would move to India with him, but because of the 1962 Indo-China war, her parents didn't allow her relationship. That's how their relationship ended. In a Humans Of Bombay interview, Ratan Tata was quoted as saying:

"I made the decision to move back at least temporarily since I had been away from my grandmother who wasn’t keeping too well for almost 7 years. So I came back to visit her & thought that the person I wanted to marry would come to India with me, but because of the 1962 Indo-China war her parent’s weren’t okay with her making the move anymore & the relationship fell apart."
