Hayley Williams and Morgan Wallen are both established musicians in their respective genres. Morgan Wallen is an established country singer, while Hayley Williams is known as the co-founder and lead vocalist of the rock band, Paramore. Although they are not from the same music industry, Hayley was aware of Morgan's highly publicised controversies. Recently, the former has taken a jab at the latter, tagging him as a 'racist country singer' for his past actions. Read to know the actual reason for the beef between the singers.
On the title track of her 2025 solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, Hayley Williams sang, "I'll be the biggest star / At this racist country singer's bar". Following the release of the track, speculations circulated regarding the potential inspiration behind such lyrics. Recently, during an interview for the New York Times' Popcast, Morgan addressed the curiosity behind the 'racist country singer' phrase in her new song and said that it could indicate a couple of singers; however, she referred to Morgan Wallen. She stated:
"It could be a couple, but I'm always talking about Morgan Wallen, I don't give a sh*t. Find me at Whole Foods, b*tch! I don't care. I just don't care."
She also offered a challenge to the country singer, adding, "Find me at Whole Foods, b*tch, I don't care". Her unapologetic remarks drew laughter from the audience. Hayley's comments follow Moran's opening of his own Nashville bar, Morgan Wallen's This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen, in 2024. In an earlier interview, she already declared his establishment her 'least favourite' bar in Nashville. Morgan and Hayley never had a one-on-one fight or a reason to beef over, making a group of people wonder why she would take such a dig at him in her song.
Hayley Williams has consistently used her platform to speak out on racial issues, telling The New York Times that she feels a responsibility to address these matters. She believes music can change people's hearts and minds, especially in her hometown of Nashville, which has a complex racial history. She noted that the ongoing support for Morgan Wallen, despite his past actions, showed that a large portion of the country music audience was unbothered by racism. Thus, she used Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party as a means to call out the issue.
Before the podcast interview, Hayley had already been vocal about her issues with Morgan and other country artist-owned bars in Nashville. In August 2025, she specifically named Wallen's bar as her least favourite, telling Stereogum that she has 'a lot of beef' with all of them. Her comments and lyrical jab at Morgan were a direct response to his 2021 controversy regarding racism.

In 2021, a video footage showed Morgan using a racial slur. The event sparked widespread backlash, leading to his temporary suspension by his record label and the removal of his music from country radio stations. Despite the industry backlash, Morgan's music sales and streaming numbers surged. To his detractors, this proved that a segment of the country music audience wasn't bothered by his alleged problematic behaviour.
Back then, the country singer posted a video apology acknowledging his mistake and claiming to have met with black leaders to learn from the incident. Some reports later suggested he ghosted the Nashville NAACP chapter after accepting a meeting. Hayley explained that her outrage against artists like Morgan Wallen was rooted in the broader issue of racism in the country music industry and Nashville's role in continuing to provide a platform for artists with problematic histories.
