Romit Raj and Shilpa Shinde's jodi was once the most loved as they met on the sets of the TV show Maayka. The couple had known each other for over a year, and it was after six months of dating that they decided to get married in 2009. However, soon they realised that they were not meant to be together, and it was Shilpa who proposed to call off the wedding. Now, Romit Raj, for the first time in his life, talked about the reason behind their breakup.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Romit Raj was questioned about his past relationship and dating Shilpa Shinde, who is famous for her character of 'Angori Bhabhi' in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain. Romit stated that it was a 16 year old tale, they met on the sets of Maayka. He revealed that they dated for six months before deciding to get married. He said:
"Yes I dated Shilpa but that was 16 years ago. We met on the sets of Maayka. I had been in Mumbai for 10 years by that time and I had not been seeing anyone for that time and Shilpa is a very nice person, she was very helpful and kind to the technicians around and was very nice to me. We dated each other for six months while working together and I just felt that we should get married and she felt the same way."
Romit revealed that after getting the family's approval, it was six months late, and they realised that they weren't meant to be together. He added that they felt the marriage would not work and that it was better to call if it was off. Romit also shared that it was Shilpa's decision to call off the wedding. He was quoted as saying:
"I told my parents she is the one but after six months we realised that we aren’t meant to be together and that it will not work out if we get married. And I think it was good decision on her and my end. We are strong headed personalities and we have a very strong point of view. She was the first person to call off the marriage.
Romit, further in the interview, mentioned that after their separation, they never stayed in contact and never met. However, when people started writing to him during Shilpa's stint on Bigg Boss, he had to stand up for her. He said:
"When Shilpa was in the Bigg Boss house people started writing to me like, ‘You are very lucky that you didn’t marry her.’ They started saying rubbishing things about her and I don’t know why but I don’t like anybody saying wrongs things about her. You can’t judge anyone by watching them for an hour on a show. She is a kind and intelligent person and after I supported her, she won the show three months later."
What do you think about Romit's revelation about Shilpa Shinde?
