Sagarika Ghatge Reveals Family's Reaction To Her Interfaith Marriage With Zaheer Khan, 'It Was...'

Zaheer Khan is a well-known former cricketer who played in all formats for the Indian cricket team from 2000 to 2014. He has been married to actress, Sagarika Ghatge since November 2017. The couple first met at a friend's party and soon fell in love. Despite their adorable love story, when the news about their relationship became public in 2016, everyone became more concerned about the different religious backgrounds of Zaheer and Sagarika. The couple never addressed those reports concerning their faith. But, in a new interview, Sagarika opened up about whether following distant faith ever became a problem between them and her family's reaction to the same.

Sagarika Ghatge shares her family's reaction to her interfaith marriage with Zaheer Khan 

Sagarika Ghatge recently sat down for an interview with Hauterrfly's The Male Feminist and shared interesting insights about her relationship and marriage. She revealed that religious background was never a barrier between her and Zaheer. The actress revealed that there had been interfaith marriages among people around her, and her family wasn't bothered by it. Elaborating on the details, Sagarika shared: 

"It was people around us who were making that conversation. My parents were very progressive people, and of course, things were discussed. But for me, it was important to find the right human being with whom I could share my life."

The Chak De! India actress added that she and Zaheer have ensured that they value each other's individuality in their relationship, which has played an important role in strengthening their bond over time. At the same time, Sagarika revealed that rather than having a problem, Zaheer and her parents share a close and fun bond. In her words: 

"Once Zaheer met my dad, it was the most beautiful relationship. Even with my mother, I think she loves him more than she loves me!" 

Sagarika Ghatge recalls Zaheer Khan's first meeting with her father 

Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan kept their relationship under wraps for some time before they decided to make it public. The media noticed the couple when they attended the wedding of Zaheer Khan's former teammate, Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech in 2016. Sagarika shared that she knew she had to tell her father about Zaheer before she would be seen with him at the wedding. Recalling her nervousness, the actress mentioned: 

"I was attending Yuvraj Singh's wedding and knew it would come out. So before that, I had to tell my dad. I thought the meeting would last 10 minutes, but it went on for more than an hour."

However, things took a quick turn when Sagarika's father immediately decided to contact Zaheer's former coach, Anshuman Gaikwad, who was also her uncle, to learn more about him. In turn, her uncle texted a nervous Zaheer, asking about his bond with Sagarika. However, the former cricketer was unsure how to respond to the text. So, he showed Sagarika the text and decided he would not reply. She supported his idea, turning it into a hilarious situation for them.
