The Saiyaara fever has not only been dominating the big screens, but it has also taken over social media. Reels and photos of the movie can be found everywhere. However, eagle-eyed netizens also noticed many similarities between the film starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda and the Korean film, A Moment to Remember. Director, Mohit Suri has been accused many times of copying Korean films, and this time was no different. As the filmmakers are still being accused of copying the story, Sankalp Sadanah, the writer of Saiyaara has broken his silence.
Sankalp Sadanah recently sat for an interview with Komal Nahta and clarified doubts regarding the story of Saiyaara. He said that the Mohit Suri-directed film was original and was not copied from any pre-existing films. The writer said that both the Hindi and Korean films are available. So, the viewers can watch both and judge for themselves whether Saiyaara is a copy, inspired, or an original. Sankalp shared:
“Honestly, so much has already been said about this. All I can say is—the Korean film is out there, and so is Saiyaara. Watch both and judge for yourself. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s inspired, a copy, or an original.”
Like the two main leads of Saiyaara, Sankalp is a debutant as well. In the same interview, the writer revealed that he wasn't the only one who got the idea of the film's story. Sankalp said that he had met Mohit Suri in his office, and the latter discussed with him the story idea for Aashiqui 3. During this discussion, the core feeling of Saiyaara came to them. The writer said that there was no screenplay or story then, just a feeling. In the interview, Sankalp stated:
“That discussion gave birth to the core of Saiyaara. At that time, there was no story, no screenplay—just a feeling. The seed of the film came from a single emotional thought, a line that appears in the film: ‘A hit song isn’t the one that stays in your head; it’s the one that stays in your heart.’ That was the emotion we built everything else around,” added Sankalp Sadanah. "
Starring two debutants, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara minted huge earnings in double digits on its first day itself, a rare feat for films featuring newcomers. And now, the film's trajectory continues to move upward with no signs of slowing down. Produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara is a musical. Ahaan Panday portrays the role of a tortured and 'bad boy' musician, 'Krish Kapoor'. Aneet Padda essays the role of 'Vaani', an introverted and shy writer. The film showcases their love story filled with many ups and downs and a huge twist.
What are your thoughts on the writer of Saiyaara claiming that the film is not a copy? Let us know.
