Salim Khan is one of the iconic filmmakers and scriptwriters in Bollywood. He has been credited for delivering some of the classic films to the box-office to date. However, apart from his professional achievements, Salim Khan has often grabbed spotlight for his personal life. For the unversed, he got married to Salma Khan, a.k.a Sushila Charak in 1964. The couple got blessed with four children, Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail and Alvira. Thereafter, it was in 1981 when he got hitched to actress, Helen.
In an interaction with Arbaaz Khan on his chat show, The Invincibles, Salim Khan opened up about his decision to send off his elder sons, Salman Khan and Arbaaz to a boarding school right when he was in a relationship with actress, Helen. The filmmaker emphasised that his only focus at that time was to not let his children’s education suffer due to his change in personal life. Salim said:
“That was the only way so that there is not any problem in your education. Naturally, you guys would have been disturbed which would affect studies. Par mai 2 saal mein tumko waapis bhi le aaya.”

Moving forth in the conversation, Arbaaz Khan enquired his father, Salim Khan, how he didn’t let any of his existing or new relations get compromised at that time of his life. The filmmaker discussed the topic further and mentioned how at that point of time, he wasn’t ready to let neither his children nor his family suffer or compromise because of the new choices he made by dating Helen. Salim Khan further credited his wife, Salma Khan for being the first one to accept everything, and it slowly made everything fall into place. In his words:
“Us samay badi baat yeh thi ki mera intention convey hota tha. Baccho pe bhi mera intention hota tha, gharwalon pe bhi, aur sab pe hota tha. Ki yeh isme atka hai, phasa hai, ye family ko chod nahi sakta aur isme rahega. Aur sab mein pehle usko tumhari mummy (salma) ne accept kiya aur uske baad aana jana shuru hogaya aur fir sab ache se rehne lage.”
In the concluding segment of the interaction, Salim Khan took a jibe at his complex personal life and remarked how he was able to balance such a complex personal life swiftly, something that is only fictionalised in films. He expressed:
“Yeh relationship bahut se logo ne film mein try kiye hai aur bahar bhi ki hogi. Magar ye koi kar na saka kyuki jo barabari ka importance dena hota hai wo bahut mushkil hai.”

Previously, in an interaction with ETimes, Arbaaz Khan had discussed the kind of equation he shares with his step-mom, Helen. He remarked that at the time when the actress became a part of the Khan family, he and his brother, Salman was away and therefore they didn’t really know the actual drama that might have unfolded. Nonetheless, he remarked having a deep respect for Helen, whom they consider as a parental figure in the family.
