Salman Khan has had quite a few ladies, but his affair with Aishwarya Rai is still the talk of the town. The duo was madly in love in the late '90s. However, they parted ways on an ugly note, with a lot of media scrutiny and a blame game. While Aishwarya accused the actor of physically abusing her, Salman kept denying the allegation and never really spoke about the actual reason for their breakup in the media. In fact, Salman and Aishwarya's fans still refuse to move on from their many years ago love story.
Famous veteran actress, Smita Jaykar, who played Aishwarya Rai's mother in the film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, talked about Salman's affair. As reported by Filmi Beat, in an old video, Smita shared that Salman and Aishwarya's love blossomed on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, it showed during the film of the movie, which worked in their favour. She said:
"At that time their love story had just started, it blossomed there, so it was showing and it worked very well for the film."

Not only this, Smita also revealed that during the shooting of one of the songs of the movie, Salman had to go around Aishwarya, and he touched her in a playful manner, and that's when the director, Sanjay, asked him not to touch her as it wasn't required for the scene. She was quoted as saying:
"I remembered one scene from the song Aankhon Ki Gustakhiya, where Salman had to go all the way round as Ash and me was standing next to each other, as I was like a mother to her all the time. He goes and touches her like this, and moves ahead. Sanjay said, 'Why did you touch her you are not supposed to touch her.' You know the feeling of touching and vo jab naye-naye pyaar mein saara-sara hota hai. He said, 'Oh, I didn't know'. Fir se vo shot hua."

Salman once, in a media interaction, clearly stated that he wasn't happy with the ending of his superhit film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The superstar shared that if he had made the film, then Nandini would have chosen the guy she loved and had left her husband. However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted a depressive kind of ending for the film. He said:
"I did not agree with the ending in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Sanjay Bhansali told me that he wanted a depressive high. But frankly, I feel that love is above all traditions. But if you are making a traditional film, then (cuss word) love. Nandini (Aishwarya) should have left her husband and gone with the guy she loved (Salman). Her husband (Ajay Devgan) was like god to her for what he did. If I had made Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, I would have let her go with the guy she loved."
