The cast of the 2016 film, Sanam Teri Kasam, Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, have been making headlines with their online battle for some time now. For the unversed, on May 10, 2025, taking to his Instagram Stories, Harshvardhan made it clear that he won’t be part of the sequel, Sanam Teri Kasam 2, if the previous cast is being repeated and also took a dig at his co-star, Mawra for making derogatory comments on Operation Sindoor. After a series of conflicts, there was a big question in everyone’s mind: whether Mawra would be present in the sequel or not. Now, the makers of Sanam Teri Kasam opened up about the star cast of the upcoming sequel, Sanam Teri Kasam 2.
For the uninitiated, the 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam, which didn’t do well at the box office, became a blockbuster movie after its re-release on February 7, 2025. Now, after looking at the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the makers of Sanam Teri Kasam have come up with a decision regarding the star cast of the sequel. Although, people loved the 'Inder-Saru' pair played by Harshvardhan and Mawra, it seems like the makers are thinking of a fresh pair. In a conversation in Hindi Rush, the co-director of Sanam Teri Kasam answered the most-awaited question regarding Mawra’s presence in the sequel. Vinay revealed:
“Mawra to nahi hai”
It all started on May 7, 2025, after India conducted a precision strike, Operation Sindoor, following the heart-wrenching Pahalgam incident on April 22, 2025. Condemning India’s counter-attack, Mawra made a tweet and called it a ‘cowardly attack on Pakistan’. This comment didn’t go well with her Sanam Teri Kasam co-star, Harshvardhan. On May 10, 2025, he strongly reacted to Mawra's tweet. Taking to his Instagram Stories, he wrote:
“I respect all artists and humans of this country, that country, Kenya and even Mars, but this kind of derogatory remarks about my country by anyone is unpardonable. Am okay with losing out on followers on Instagram, but won’t allow anyone to walk over the pride and upbringing. Standing by your country is good, but disrespectful, hate remarks about other country is not.”
The online battle didn’t stop there. After Harshvardhan’s revelation to step down from the upcoming sequel if the previous cast repeats, hinting his co-star, Mawra, the female lead, also counter-attacked the actor. Taking to her Instagram Stories, Mawra hits back at Harshavardhan:
“I don’t know whether to call this unfortunate, sad or comical…someone I expected to have basic common sense has risen from deep slumber with a PR strategy. Look around you… children in my country died due to an unjustified cowardly attack, innocent lives are lost... Making such announcements at this volatile time, it’s both shameful and bizarre to see you so hungry and desperate... You just DO NOT use war for your personal benefit.”
Later, on May 11, 2025, Harshvardhan, too, clapped back at Mawra’s PR remark. Taking to his Instagram Stories, Harshvardhan wrote that it was nothing but a personal attack. He also mentioned that these things just bother him as he is more concerned about maintaining his country’s dignity over them. Harshvardhan can be quoted as:

“That sounded like an attempt at personal attack. Fortunately, I have tolerance to overlook such attempts - but have zero tolerance for any attack on my nation's dignity. I simply offered to step down from Part 2. I am fully within my rights to choose not to work with individuals who label my country’s actions as ‘cowardly’. So much hate in her speech, so many personal remarks. I never mentioned her name or resorted to calling her names. Didn’t attack her dignity as a woman. I intend to maintain that standard.”
