Ranbir Kapoor's starrer film, Animal made headlines for the intense scenes and how the movie talks about the protagonist's immense love for his father. While many loved the action-packed scenes and how the film had an interesting story and songs, some called it highly violent. Amongst them was Aamir Khan's ex-wife, Kiran Rao, who called out the director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga for promoting misogyny and stalking in his films.
During an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, without directly naming Kiran Rao, addressed how she criticised his films, while her ex-husband, Aamir Khan's main character in the film, Dil, had threatened the heroine and almost raped her. The director revealed how his assistant had showed him the article from a superstar's second ex-wife, where she stated that Baahubali and Kabir Singh promoted stalking. He said:
"Some people don’t understand what they are saying. One assistant director showed me the article from this superstar’s second ex-wife where she was saying that Baahubali and Kabir Singh promote misogyny, promote stalking. Sandeep Reddy Vanga then slammed Aamir Khan's film Dil, which was released in 1990. Using harsh words, he stated that Aamir Khan almost attempted rape and then fell in love with her. He added that before attacking someone, you should check your surroundings. He was quoted as saying:
"I want to tell that woman that go and ask Aamir Khan about the song ‘Khambe jaisi khadi hai’, what was that? Then come back to me. If you remember Dil, he almost attempts rape, he makes her feel like she has done the wrong thing. And they fall in love after that. What was all that? I don’t understand why they attack like that before checking the surroundings."
