'Scream 7' In Theatres, Neve Campbell To Return As 'Sidney Prescott,' Facing A New Wave Of Terror

After a long wait of more than two years, Scream 7 is finally arriving in theatres on February 27, 2026. There will be a new 'Ghostface' k*ller this time, with a long list of suspects, and any one of them turning out to be the person behind the mask in the end. Irrespective of the fact that the popular slasher franchise has followed the normal pattern of adding a lot of blood and gore, the reason it has built a fan base is due to the unpredictable endings and the motivations of the k*llers.

With the success of the fifth and sixth entries in 2022 and 2023, the producers wanted Scream 7 to be bigger and better. It is true that people are going to miss Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera. However, the iconic character, 'Sidney Prescott,' portrayed by Neve Campbell, is returning to the seventh entry following her absence in Scream VI. The film had to undergo multiple changes before entering production, and fans are now excited to see what the new installment has in store for them. Keep reading to know more about Scream 7!

As mentioned, Neve Campbell will return as 'Sidney Prescott' in the seventh entry. Notably, the actress confirmed the release date of Scream 7 in August 2024. Neve Campbell shared an Instagram post, tagging Kevin Williamson, who has directed the latest installment. Neve added a photo of a calendar with the date February 27, 2026, along with the title of the movie and a knife on top of the calendar.

Scream 7 is specifically creating headlines as it will be the first film in the franchise to be released in IMAX theatres, along with Dolby Cinema and 4DX. Apart from this, Paramount has planned to release the film in the UK theatres on February 26, 2025, as stated by Digital Spy. The runtime of the film has been set at 113 minutes. According to Bloody Disgusting, the MPAA has provided an R rating to Scream 7 for strong violence and language.

Scream 7

Compared to the previous two installments, Scream 7 will completely focus on 'Sidney Prescott' and where she is right now. The storyline is going to be simple, where 'Sidney' will do everything she can to protect her daughter, 'Tatum,' who is being targeted by another 'Ghostface.' For the unversed, 'Sidney' has named her daughter 'Tatum' in honor of her best friend, 'Tatum Riley,' portrayed by Rose McGowan. 'Tatum' was the sister of Deputy Sheriff, 'Dewey Riley,' and she was k*lled in the first film, released back in 1996.

Back in June 2025, director Kevin Williamson said in an interview that the best thing about Scream 7 is that everyone would “get to go home” with 'Sidney Prescott.' Kevin said that he is completely immersed in the character and her incarnations throughout the franchise. Kevin recalled the day he received a call from Neve Campbell, who told him that he should direct the movie. Kevin mentioned that although he initially rejected the offer, he ended up taking it in the end.

Four famous characters of the franchise are returning in Scream 7

Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley

While Neve Campbell is returning as the lead, three more iconic characters will be a part of Scream 7. Courteney Cox will reprise her role as 'Gale Weathers' this time, along with Matthew Lillard, returning as 'Stu Macher.' The latter was one of the k*llers in the first Scream (1996) alongside 'Billy Loomis,' played by Skeet Ulrich. David Arquette will also appear as 'Dewey Riley.' Although 'Dewey' was k*lled in Scream (2022), the makers have not opened up on how he will be brought back.

Tatum

Among the new characters, Isabel May has been cast as 'Tatum,' Sidney’s daughter. Joe McHale will play Sidney’s husband, 'Mark Evans.' 'Mindy Meeks-Martin' and 'Chad Meeks-Martin,' played by Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, respectively, in the fifth and sixth entries, are returning in Scream 7. Other cast members include Anna Camp, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Tim Simons, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Mark Consuelos, Michelle Randolph, and more.
