Sanjay Dutt is one of the few actors who has continued to work in the industry for more than three decades. But, unlike many others, his life has been an open book full of controversies. One of the major parts of his life was the actor who went to prison for illegal possession of arms in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, and the whole entertainment industry came out to extend their support for him. One of them was veteran actor, Shatrughan Sinha. Recently in a conversation, the Bombay To Goa actor recalled how he tried to get Sanjay out of prison years ago, who has disappeared from his life.
Shatrughan Sinha was recently present at a book launch event where he interacted with the other guests and some media personnel. During the conversation, Shatrughan Sinha recalled how around 1993, he was stressed when Sanjay Dutt was arrested for keeping dangerous weapons. It was a serious concern for his father and actor-MP, Sunil Dutt, who made every attempt to get his son out of the matter. Recalling the time, Shatrughan Sinha said:
"Sunil Dutt was like my elder brother. He, Rajan Lall, Shashi Ranjan, and I used to sit together every evening amid the Mumbai riots. We used to cross risky and dangerous streets. During that time, a major problem landed on Dutt Saheb's head. Humaara and sabka laadla Sanjay Dutt jail mai tha.”
The Jaani Dushman actor shared that everyone was trying to get Sanjay out of the legal turmoil and bring him home. At this moment, they sought help from Balasaheb Thackeray, who had a major influence in Maharashtra's politics. The late Politician played a vital role to ensure that the Vaastav actor got adequate facilities and made attempt for his subsequent release from jail. In Shatrughan Sinha's Words:
"We introduced them to him, and Balasaheb Thackeray ji played a major role in Sanjay Dutt's case. Be it his return from jail or facilities being provided there. Aaj agar Sanjay Dutt yahan hote toh bahut acha hota. The day he came out of the jail, he was with us. He came straight to our house after coming out and taking blessings at Siddhivinayak temple. We then went to Rajan Lall's home, congratulated him and talked for hours."
When someone does a big favour for another person, it deepens their bond. But, this didn't happen with Shatrughan Sinha, who is sad that the PK actor doesn't meet him anymore. However, he doesn't blame Sanjay and understands that he might have his own reason for not meeting him. Expressing his despair over the fact, Shatrughan Sinha said:
"We have tried to find Sanjay, especially Rajan Lall. He tried in front of us and through us, but Dutt saheb ka chashmo Chirag jo hume nahi mila hai, uske upar ek title lag chuka hai 'dhundhte rehjaaoge' But, this doesn't mean that he isn't lovely, he might be having his own reasons, problems, or just busy."
Shatrughan Sinha, who hails from a humble family in Patna, got his first acting gig in Dev Anand's Prem Pujari, but his next film, Sajan, was released first. He became famous after playing the antagonist in films like Pyar Hi Pyar, Banphool, Raampur Ka Lakshman, Bhai Ho Toh Aisa and more. The veteran actor gradually turned to play supporting roles and later emerged as the lead in films like Yaaraon Ka Yaar, Dillagi, Vishwanath, Muqabla, Aag Hi Aag, Jaani Dushman and Khoon Bhari. Gradually, Shatrughan Sinha left films to focus on his career in politics.
