Simi Grewal, best known for her TV chat show, Rendezvous With Simi Grewal, had earlier taken to her Instagram handle to announce that she would debut at Cannes 2025 on May 19, 2025. On the other hand, veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore was seen gearing up for her debut in the city. Now, a while back, Sharmila and Simi made their most poised, graceful debut at the prestigious film festival. They had come for the screening of Satyajit Ray's movie, Aranyer Din Ratri.
When Sharmila and Saba first landed in the city, they went on a city tour. Now, a while back, Sharmila was papped at the iconic Cannes Film Festival, where she was seen walking in a poised manner with her daughter, Saba Pataudi. Sharmila looked like a queen on the red carpet as a restored 4K version of the Bengali movie, Aranyer Din Ratri, called Days and Nights in the Forest, featuring her will be shown in English at the Film Festival, categorised under the Classics section. Sharmila posed gracefully in front of the paps. On one hand, Sharmila came to present her movie, which was released decades ago. The premiere of the movie would be presented by Wes Anderson, a Hollywood filmmaker and a lifelong lover of Satyajit Ray's work.
Simi Grewal is best known and seen as a talk show host. Her style of talking with stars had charm, wit and zero sensationalism. Simi was already a trailblazer, way ahead of her time, was seen decked in a gown reportedly by the Indian couture brand, Karleo, in her signature epic white colour. Simi too elegantly posed for the paps and was seen with producer Purnima Dutta, Margaret Bodde, who is The Film Foundation's executive director. Present was FHF founder, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.
Sharmila's daughter, Saba, took to her Instagram handle to share an array of snaps with her mom, Sharmila, from Mumbai to Cannes. The snaps included an in-flight selfie, the pictures from the time when they landed in the city, and snaps inside the bus. Sharmila was seen casually dressed once in a white anarkali with a pink jacket. She was then seen in a green t-shirt, black jacket and posed with her daughter, Saba.
The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project, located at L'Immagine Ritrovata in association with the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), Janus Films, and the Criterion Collection, will present Aranyer Din Ratri. The funding has reportedly been given by the Golden Globe Foundation. The adventure movie is based on the novel that has the same name, penned by Sunil Gangopadhyay. The stellar cast included Soumitra Chatterjee, Sharmila Tagore, Simi Garewal and Aparna Sen. The plot of the movie is about a gang of four friends who think differently but have a great bond. They are all educated and come from varied layers of society. However, they want to escape the grind of the city life and hence wander in tribal places.
