Sonali Kulkarni is one of the few stars in Bollywood who have grown to accept their bodies as they are and have chosen to maintain their health by following all-natural alternatives. In an industry where appearances hold extreme importance, the actress has made a no-compromise pact with herself when it comes to her health. In a recent conversation with HT Health Shots, the actress opened up about the same.
Sonali chose to live a guilt-free life while maintaining realistic standards with natural remedies and exercises to maintain her physique, revealing that there are stars for whom this is not the truth. The actress revealed that several celebrities are battling eating disorders and resorting to artificial substances for weight loss. She added that throwing up was a common problem in the industry and stated:
"I am at a point in life where I support myself and I tell myself ‘I am unique. My size is my size’. I don’t think that at the cost of my health, I want to be thin. There is a fashion of becoming thin and thinner. I understand there is a demand for that because I work on screen. The leaner you are, the better you look on screen. But it is so common to have friends who have the problem of throwing up what they eat (bulimia nervosa), and they are also consuming weight loss drugs."
In the same conversation, Sonali revealed that it concerns her to see celebrities be rude to their personal staff or just want to be done with the work. She added that there are so many people taking unprescribed medicines. However, she wondered at what cost they were doing this. She added that people forget their real families and live a persona for the screen. She was quoted as saying:
"I feel at the cost of what we are taking these? Until and unless, it is prescribed by your physician (for a problem), why are you going for it? The brunt is always borne by your close ones, your family. People sometimes forget they have a family and only start living for the persona on screen. I want to realise what I have. Unless I value what I have, I will also pursue what I don’t have."
In the same conversation, Sonali Kulkarni revealed that as far as her health is concerned, she listens to her body and makes the necessary changes. She added that for the past five years, she has been seeing a lot of changes in her physique and body. She added that turning 50 has made her more humble towards her health. She added that she also takes inspiration from her parents, who are over 80 years old but are still trying to maintain their health.
Talking further about her health and wellness rituals, Sonali revealed that she, as an actor, is aware that she needs to take care of her physical and mental health. She added that she weight trains every alternate day, and keeps changing her workout. Sonali shared that in 2024, she was doing yoga, but now she is doing something else; she also admitted that she walked a lot and tries not to make excuses when it comes to her fitness. She also talked about mindful eating and expressed that while she wishes she could happily eat everything she wanted, she keeps an eye on what she consumes. Sonali also shared that her summer pick was nachni.

Like every Indian, Sonali revealed that if there is one thing she cannot give up, it is her tea. She shared that she has followed lifestyle coach, Dr. Sarita Davare's diet for the longest time. But whenever I discuss my diet or obstacles with her or anyone else, they always ask her to leave her chai, which she cannot do. She added that some people have even suggested that she turn vegan. However, she maintained that she feels hesitant about making drastic shifts. She further talked about her mental health and stated:
"I like to maintain a normal routine because I like to maintain my mental fitness as well. We are trying to find ‘What I should be’ rather than ‘Who am I’. We are always comparing. I personally like to be a little considerate about the challenges that we face and the lack of community that we are becoming. We are all becoming islands."
