Soni Razdan is one of the most talented actors in Indian cinema. Born in England, she has made an unparalleled mark in Bollywood. Speaking about her personal life, the diva is married to filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt and the duo is parents to their daughters, Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt. In a recent interaction, Soni talked about raising her children most ordinarily.
In an interaction with Rashmi Uchil, Soni Razdan talked about the real life of stars beyond the aura of glamour and glitz. She spoke of her own life and revealed how she never raised her daughters, Shaheen Bhatt and Alia Bhatt, in an extravagantly luxurious way. Claiming how there was ‘never any excess money’ to spare, she mentioned that both her daughters grew up in a middle-class lifestyle. Recalling a specific anecdote, the actress said:
“Once, we were travelling to Dubai and could not afford three business-class tickets. I told my children, I will travel first class, and you guys travel economy. They made a face. When I went to check on them, I saw the lady in the seat right in front of them had reclined her seat, and these children had hardly any space in front of them. I told my children, why don’t you ask her to straighten her seat? Are you guys okay? They were miffed and retorted, why are you asking us how we are doing? We will not tell her anything. The lady in front of them was a senior citizen and they felt bad telling her to straighten her seat. It wasn’t a big deal at all.”

Hearing the particular anecdote, many might question why the actress chose to travel first class while her children were left behind in the economy class. However, sharing her point of view, Soni mentioned that she wanted her daughters to understand the value of earning their own money and then aiming for luxuries they could afford. In her words:
“My logic was you have not earned enough to travel in business class as yet. Once you earn enough to afford the business class fare, please travel in business class. Simple as that.”
In the same interview, Soni Razdan talked about a time when she, her husband and two daughters lived in a modest two-bedroom apartment in 2004. The actress claimed that while there weren’t enough resources all the time, none of them ever complained, and they managed it just fine. She even talked about how her husband, Mahesh Bhatt, had to look after two households with less money that he had. Sharing more, she said:
“We never had plenty, but we managed fine. My two children had a normal, regular middle-class upbringing. There was never any excess money. We lived in a two-bedroom apartment until 2004. Money started coming in only after Mahesh turned producer and even then, he had two households to look after. I’m glad my children had a typical middle-class upbringing as that was the way I was brought up too. My husband had a car and a driver to take him to work. I had a Zen. I’d drive the children to school and pick them up too.”
