Sunita Ahuja Punished With Tawa By Mother For Failing Class 8, Secretly Dated Govinda, 'I Lied..'

The Bollywood film industry during the '90s was synonymous with the name of Govinda. Though the star's shine might have faded a little, there is someone else from his family who is making headlines now. And it's none other than Sunita Ahuja, his wife, who is known for her no-holds-barred opinions and her unconventional and unique personality. Recently, in her candid style, Sunita talked about the time when her mother burned her face with a hot 'tawa' when she failed in the 8th standard while dating her now-husband, Govinda.

Sunita Ahuja, in an interview with Galatta India, shared that when she was in the 8th standard, she failed the class. She was also in a relationship with Govinda, who had already finished college and wasn't approved by her parents. Sunita lied to her mother about her marks, but her mom burned her across the face with a hot pan to get her to tell the truth. She also shared that her mother wanted her to excel in studies, but she wasn't interested in academics. In the interview, Sunita was quoted as saying:

“I was in 8th standard and I failed the class. I didn’t tell my mother about it, and by then, I was already in a relationship with Govinda. I lied to my mother saying that I have passed. So my mom, she heated up a tawa and she burnt me here (cheek bone), and she questioned me about my lies. My mom was very strict. She pushed me to study but I hated it. I would just fall asleep whenever I opened my books.”

Sunita Ahuja talked about her parents' marriage 

In the same interview, Sunita shared that her mother used to 'wear hot pants' back in the day and was from Palli Hills, an affluent neighbourhood in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Meanwhile, her father was a struggling actor from Virar, a semi-urban region in the same city. Sunita revealed that her maternal grandfather was against her parents' relationship and did not even attend the wedding. She shared:

“My mom used to wear hot pants, lived in Pali Hill, came from a very rich background. My dad was not that financially strong. He was struggling from Virar. My maternal grandfather was very well to do comparatively. It was a very Bollywood story where he told my mother, ‘Are you crazy? He is an aspiring actor’. He didn’t even attend the wedding because he was not too happy with the whole thing.”

Govind Ahuja, (stage name Govinda), and Sunita tied the knot in 1987. However, with the actor making his debut in Bollywood at the time, the couple hid their marriage until Sunita gave birth to their first child, Tina Ahuja. Recently, reports were floating around that Sunita and Govinda were heading for a divorce in 2025, after 37 years of marriage. However, the former shut down these speculations and termed them as 'afwah'.
