Taylor Swift has been making rounds on the internet for her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. The singer appeared on The Tonight Show alongside Jimmy Fallon to discuss the same and reveal some of the goofiest moments from the past months. The Eldest Daughter singer also reflected on her speech during Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's wedding and shared what she actually said.

Hours after Selena Gomez shared the first photos of Taylor Swift at her wedding on Instagram, the Love Story star debunked a viral rumour about her reception speech on The Tonight Show. During the conversation, host Jimmy Fallon asked Taylor if she really joked that her longtime friend, Selena, had beaten her to the altar, like one tabloid reported. Taylor revealed that she made sure to avoid the topic of her engagement altogether. She was quoted as saying:

"Well, I got to see her be the most elegant, gorgeous, not only bride, but just a vision that I've ever seen in my life. I've never seen anything so beautiful as her on her wedding day. And she deserves all this happiness. Benny is—he's him. He's so funny. He's the best. So I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement."

In the same conversation, Taylor Swift admitted that no one wants to hear about someone else's relationship on their wedding day. She added that one should not only refrain from mentioning their engagement on such an occasion, but also turn their ring the other way and let the bride enjoy her special event. She was quoted as saying:

"Nobody wants you to be like, 'Hey, I know this is your wedding day, but I'm [engaged]!' You know, I was like, don't mention it. Maybe turn it [the ring] around, you know what I mean? This is her day."

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been friends for almost two decades, having watched each other navigate life's challenges. Reflecting on what she actually discussed at Selena's wedding, Taylor shared that she teased the Look at Me Now singer about their sense of style back in 2008. 

Taylor Swift shared that she mentioned the trendy abbreviations from the time and how Selena's go-to outfit was a long tank top and skinny jeans with the tiniest vest, while she herself would be dressed like she was going to a 'Cowboy-themed prom'. She was quoted as saying:

"I did do some light teasing about the way that we used to dress in 2008, the year that we met, because you know, we were teenagers and 2008 was quite a year, let me tell you. And so I talked a little about 2008, and I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it's been to get to be a part of her life, but I did not make it about me."

Taylor Swift had previously discussed attending the wedding and shared how much it meant to her. During her appearance on SiriusXM's Morning Mash Up earlier this week, she discussed how much it meant to her to see Selena Gomez marry Benny Blanco. She called her best friend, 'not just the most beautiful bride...but the most beautiful thing' she had ever seen.
