Thalapathy Vijay Wouldn't Respond To Wife Sangeetha's Romantic Gestures, 'She Felt It Was A Waste..'

South sensation, Vijay is currently making headlines after reports surfaced that his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has filed for divorce. As per the reports, after 27 years of togetherness, Sangeetha filed for a divorce from Vijay in the Chengalpattu Family Court, and in the plea, she reportedly made some shocking allegations against the actor, including his infidelity with an actress.

In an interview with Excuse Me, Vijay discussed his marriage to Sangeetha and revealed that his father liked her a lot and asked him to marry her. The actor also heaped praise on Sangeetha and revealed that she had put in a lot of effort into the marriage, but he never responded to them. In his words:

“Before marriage, she used to put in a lot of effort and do so many things. After marriage, not so much. She felt it was a waste to do anything because I wouldn’t react much. But in between, she gifted me cars and such things… She’s very understanding, and that’s very important. If a film flops, she supports me and tells me not to feel bad.”

In the same interview, Vijay revealed the reason behind marrying Sangeetha and heaped praises on Sangeetha. Vijay shared that the main reason behind tying the knot with Sangeetha was her understanding nature. He also mentioned how she always gave honest opinions about his films. In his words:

“She is very understanding – that’s the main reason. She gives honest opinions after each of my films' release. Her feedback is often on point. She would even tell me beforehand whether a film would work or not. Putting all that aside, she has played the biggest role in my life."

Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha’s separation after 27 years

On February 27, 2026, news of Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam’s separation surfaced online. According to a report by The Indian Express, Vijay’s wife has filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu Family Court. Her petition was filed under Section (1)(a), (b), (d) and Sections 36 & 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 20, 2026. Sangeetha’s petition states that she discovered an alleged affair involving Vijay and a female actress in April 2021. It is worth mentioning that the couple are parting ways after 26 years of marriage. For the unversed, the duo reportedly tied the knot on August 25, 1999, in Chennai. It was an interfaith marriage as Vijay is a Christian and his wife, Sangeetha, is a Hindu.
