The Inbetweeners originally aired on British TV channel, E4 on May 1 2008, and went on to become one of the country's most-watched sitcoms ever. The show was created and written by the iconic duo of Damon Beesley and Iain Morris. Talking about the cast, it featured four young teenage actors, William McKenzie as Simon Bird, Simon Cooper as Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland, and James Buckley as Jay Cartwright. The show's theme revolved around their school life, friendship, lad culture, adolescent sexuality, and uncaring school staff.
All these elements combined made The Inbetweeners one of the most successful British sitcoms of the 21st century. From BAFTA nominations in 2009 and 2010, Audience Award at BATA, British Comedy Award, Best TV Show Award at NME Awards, and Best Comedy at the 2012 Empire Awards, and many more. In 2019, The Guardian placed The Inbetweeners at the 74th position in the list of the 100 best TV shows of the 21st Century.
The famous British show became such a success that it was followed by two movies, The Inbetweeners Movie (2011) and The Inbetweeners 2 (2014). Not only this, but The Inbetweeners Yearbook was released in September 2011, and The Inbetweeners Scriptbook followed in October 2012. In 2008, an American version of the successful show was produced by MTV, but it couldn't reach the heights of the original show. Fast forward to October 2025, and after almost a decade, the creators of the original show, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, are teaming up with Banijay UK to bring the show back to life.
Yes! You read it right. After multiple hints and teases in the last decade, it is finally happening. According to a report in The Independent, the project is under early production, but reports have confirmed that the original cast is returning for the iconic sitcom's return. While there are no hints signalling the casting of new actors, it is also unclear whether it will be a TV series, a limited special, or a feature film. If the insiders are to be believed, the new project will revolve around the characters' lives as middle-aged men, navigating marriages, kids, and their careers.
The Inbetweeners' four original leads, Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison, are returning, and the news has taken the internet by storm. Along with this, reports are rife that fan-favourites like Belinda Stewart-Wilson and Emily Atack will also be in it, reprising their respective roles of 'Will's mother' and 'Charlotte'. The reports further stated that the project will be premiering on Channel 4 or maybe on a streaming platform (disclosed as of now), and its production is expected to begin in early 2026.
