Wedding cakes are a big thing in the West, where the delectable spongy goodness is cut at the reception and served to the guests after dinner. However, now weddings from all around the world have adopted this tradition. From engagement cakes to wedding cakes, the spongy delight has won everyone's hearts with its mouthwatering taste, which is why these sugary treats now come with staggering price tags.

A wedding cake's price is set based on its flavour, design, decoration, weight, and how many tiers there are. On average, wedding cakes range from INR three to ten thousand, in extreme cases, the prices may go up to lakhs. However, your jaws will drop to the floor when you find out the world's most expensive cake costs a million dollars, which is above INR 8 crore!

Dubai's Debbie Wingham handcrafted the most expensive cake in the world

The world's most expensive cake was made in Dubai by ace baker, Debbie Wingham and her team. The cake was unlike any traditional and was shaped like an Arab bride. From the dress to the flowers to the intricate pearl and diamonds on the cake, all were edible and handcrafted by Debbie's team. The Arab bridal cake is 182 cm high and weighs 120 kg, making it one of the largest cakes in the world.

As per Times Of India, making this cake took ten strenuous days. The cake was made in the Raffles Hotel, Dubai, using over 1,000 eggs and 20 kilos of chocolate. The cake also features 50 kgs of lacy confectionary details, edible 3-carat diamonds, and pearls. Each diamond imbibed in the cake is deemed to be worth over millions.

The cake is sculpted by rice crispy and modelling chocolate to hold up its shape. To add additional support to the structure, 20 kg of Belgian chocolates were used. The outer shaping of the cake was designed on 50 kilograms of cake fondant. The cake features intricate floral work throughout its garment, made of 5,000 handmade fondant flowers.

Where was the cake showcased?

The cake is titled 'Bride' and was showcased at the Dubai World Trade Center in 2019. It was part of Debbie's bridal cake collection through which she wanted to present the elegance of cake and diamonds. Over 200 attendees saw the cake, and people worldwide visited the show for four consecutive days to see the rare beauty. Talking about her million-dollar cake, Debbie Wingham added:

"Diamonds have become the material of choice, and I'm constantly look at featuring them in a more inventive way, I have been a big fan of the Arabian culture and wanted to incorporate it in the design of the wedding cake. Raffles pastry chefs have always been extremely creative with their afternoon tea collection, so it was a natural synergy for us to work together on this project – a marriage made in heaven".
