Savannah Guthrie is currently navigating an extremely profound grief as no traces of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, have been found for about twelve days now. The Today Show host's mother has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona home after being last seen at midnight on January 31, 2026. Recently, the FBI shared photos and videos of a masked person of interest, and the internet is buzzing with theories regarding Nancy's son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni and his bandmate, Dominic Evans, being the kidnapper. Amid that, Nancy Guthrie's family is speculated to have hired a private investigator.
Nancy Guthrie's case is being investigated by multiple agencies, led by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, with significant assistance from the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and search-and-rescue teams. Amidst that, the public spotted a tall guy with a big build outside Nancy's house. An X user shared his video, referring to him as the Guthrie family's hired private investigator (PI). "Moments ago, a man who tells us he's a private investigator for the family showed up at Nancy Guthrie's house and spoke to the Sheriff's deputy on site. He also dropped off what looks like some additional security signage," the post read.

The report about hiring a PI to search for Nancy Guthrie is untrue. Initially, a local reporter also alleged that a PI identifying himself as hired by the family appeared at her house. A source close to the family later told Fox News that they had not enlisted those services. Regarding the identity of the man in the viral video, an X (formerly Twitter) user alleged that he was the Guthrie family's security personnel, who "has been nice to most of the media and such out there." The PI speculations heightened since fans compared the FBI-released visuals of Nancy's abductor with her daughter, Annie Guthrie's husband, Tommaso Cioni and his friend, Dominic Evans.

Some social media users claim the recently released footage of a masked person of interest in Nancy Guthrie's case matches Tommaso Cioni's physical profile, specifically citing his build and facial hair (moustache and beard). "I've been suspicious about this guy for a week. Intruder has the same slow shoulders, oaffy build & dark facial hair too," an X user wrote. The public also based their prediction on the fact that "the intruder sure knew the area around the Nest camera," since it had been concealed effectively. However, the attention shifted to Tommaso's friend, Dominic Evans, after an investigative journalist claimed the former's height was more than that of the 5'9" to 5'10" tall kidnapper.

Dominic Evans was in focus for his connection with Nancy Guthrie's daughter, Annie Guthrie's husband, Tommaso Cioni. Tommaso, Dominic's Early Black bandmate, was named a "prime suspect" in Nancy's abduction by NewsNation journalist, Ashleigh Banfield. Online speculation about Dominic intensified after several X users claimed that his athletic build and visible facial hair (a dark moustache and goatee) aligned with the masked kidnapper. "The lips and eyes [of the suspect and Dominic] are uncanny," an online user stated.

Recent online speculation has also compared an alleged wrist tattoo seen on the masked kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie to Dominic Evans. Several online users visited Dominic and Tommaso's band, Early Black's old videos and spotted something inked on the former's wrist. The drummer's alleged tattoo received attention after former FBI supervisory special agent and criminal profiler, Jim Clemente, shared with Fox News that a potential tattoo on the right wrist of the masked subject in the FBI-released footage could be a critical identifier.
