Travis Kelce Confirms Return To The Chiefs, Did Taylor Swift Influence Him Not To Retire From NFL?

Travis Kelce is one of the most renowned American professional football players. As his fans might already be aware, Travis plays as the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL). He has remained with the team for more than a decade after being selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. However, by 2026, there was a lot of uncertainty about whether Travis Kelce would return to the Kansas City Chiefs for his 14th NFL season.

Well, the official New Heights podcast Instagram page revealed that Travis is not retiring just yet and will be seen playing for the Chiefs this season. However, did Travis's fiancée, Taylor Swift, influence his decision? 

Did Taylor Swift play a part in Travis Kelce deciding not to retire and return to the Chiefs? 

Travis Kelce and his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, did not have the best performance last season. In fact, they failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014, finishing with a disappointing 6-11 record. In addition to the fact that Travis is nearing 40, many NFL fans thought that he would be retiring in 2026. Prior to Travis confirming that he will be back playing with the Chiefs for a 14th year, former NFL player, Pat McAfee, on his show, The Pat McAfee Show, said that he believes Travis's “relationship with Taylor Swift is only going to make him better,” especially for the long haul.

Pat said that since Travis' career is already ‘certified’, people should definitely consider him one of the greatest tight ends of all time. He noted that owing to Travis having a truly successful career for more than a decade, he is already set up financially for the rest of his life, “regardless of who he is dating.” However, Pat emphasised that Taylor and her work ethic have a positive influence on Travis. To quote Pat: 

“But I think he sees Taylor kill it…continue to kinda grow, continue to strive, continue to try and get better. And I think they work together off of that…a beautiful kindred spirit that can motivate each other. When two greats are good together, it’s good for society. It’s certainly good for the Chiefs…I’m pumped for it, man.” 

Fans react to Travis Kelce being back with the Chiefs for his 14th year 

For those who haven't checked it yet, the confirmation that Travis Kelce will be back with the Kansas City Chiefs for his 14th year came from the official Instagram page of the New Heights podcast, which Travis co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. The caption of the post reads, “He’s back!!! Travis Kelce is back with the Chiefs for year 14.” The post featured an animated video of Travis reciting a quote by Keanu Reeves from his hit film, John Wick. The voiceover says: 

“People keep asking if I’m back, and I haven’t really had an answer. But now, yeah, I’m thinkin’ I’m back.”  

Fans of both Travis and the Chiefs started to flood the comments with their opinion. It is worth noting that most of them were glad that Travis did not choose to retire. One user wrote, “So happy and I love this player a lot, and he made my day today.” Another wrote, “Never doubted that he would come back for another season.” A third comment read, “LFG Trav…the confirmation everyone wanted to hear.”

A fourth fan who couldn't hide their excitement penned, “Yeaaassss go Trav!!!!!! Can't wait for another year!!!! Well, some fans even wished that his elder brother, Jason, should also have continued playing instead of retiring. For instance, a netizen wrote, "He seemed too young to retire!! He wasn't ready yet. Jason should also have stuck it out one more year.”
