Udaipur's Mass Wedding Turns Tragic As Over 200 Hospitalised After Eating Poisonous Sweets And Raab

A wedding, which is considered the most beautiful affair of one's life, suddenly turned tragic. Yes, a mass wedding ceremony was organised in Udaipur, which became a nightmare as over 200 guests were hospitalised after eating contaminated sweets. The case with an increase in the number of food poisoning patients left everyone in shock.

Udaipur's mass wedding turned into a nightmare as people ate poisonous sweets

According to several reports, a mass wedding was organised by the Telik Sahu Samaj at Oswal Bhawan in Dhan Mandi, Udaipur, Rajasthan. There were thousands of people from different parts of Udaipur who arrived to witness the celebration. However, after eating the lunch, people started complaining of nausea and diarrhoea. 

Within no time, the situation worsened, and a huge number of people were admitted to Maharana Bhupas Hospital. 150 people arrived at the hospital after complaining about food poisoning, but by 10 in the night, the count had risen to over 200. After examination, over 50 people, including women and children, were admitted as the symptoms were extremely severe. 

People fell ill after eating poisonous sweets

As per reports, most of the wedding attendees fell ill after consuming Rajashtan's traditional beverage called Raab. It is a lightly-flavoured porridge or a kanji made from flour, which is considered a healthy meal for winter. A huge crowd of worried relatives gathered on the hospital grounds, which further added to the chaos. 

After this, hospital authorities only restricted access to patients, which left the relatives in distress. To control the situation, Hathipol Police intervened to manage the crowd and restore the calm. The symptoms of food positioning appeared after immediate consumption of food. The health department has sent samples of the sweets and raab to the laboratory.

Udaipur Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ragini Agarwal revealed that 196 patients fell ill, following the consumption of Khichdi and sweets prepared for the event. She said:

"Most patients complained of vomiting and diarrhoea. Thankfully, all have now recovered and were discharged. The 15-year-old girl in the ICU too has recovered and was sent back home on Monday evening."
