Just a day after the heartbreaking loss of singer-actor, Rajvir Jawanda, the Punjabi film industry has been struck by another tragedy. As per some latest news reports, Punjabi actor and bodybuilder, Varinder Singh Ghuman has passed away, suffering a heart attack in Amritsar, Punjab. The sudden death has left his family, friends, and fans in shock. The 53-year-old was famous for being the biggest vegetarian bodybuilder in India. Amid all this, the cause of the actor's demise has left everyone stunned. Here's everything to know about it.
According to India Today, Varinder Singh Ghuman had been admitted to the Fortis Hospital in Amritsar for a minor surgery related to a bicep injury. The prescribed treatment was considered a routine procedure, and he was expected to be discharged soon. However, things took a dark turn, and he reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during treatment. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, they were unable to revive him. His untimely death has left the Punjabi entertainment and bodybuilding community in shock.
A Jalandhar-based bodybuilder, Harminder Dullowal, confirmed the news. He told some media portals that Varinder had a muscle rupture in the chest area. Consequently, they visited Amritsar for treatment. But had never expected that the actor would meet his fate between the treatments. So, it is difficult for them to accept the loss. For those unaware, Varinder resided in Model Town, Jalandhar. He owned a gym and was popular for promoting health and vegan fitness in the region.
In one of his previous interviews, Varinder Ghuman shared his proud moment of representing India on a global stage in bodybuilding competitions. One such moment became more special after Varinder received a chance to meet Arnold Schwarzenegger during his visit to Spain for the Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championship. Since the Tiger 3 actor held the highest rank, he was able to meet Arnold, who was impressed with his chiseled physique and praised him on social media. Recalling the moment, he said:
"It was during a visit to Spain for a competition for the Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championship that I got to meet the star. I was a top ranker at the event, and Arnold was enthralled to see my body and that I was the tallest bodybuilder from India."
Varinder Singh Ghuman was born in Gurdaspur and later settled in Jalandhar. He was 6 feet 3 inches tall and competed in the heavyweight category of 120 kg or more. He rose to fame after winning the Mr. India title in 2009 and securing second place at Mr. Asia. At the same time, Varinder made history as the first Asian to participate in Arnold Schwarzenegger's Arnold Classic bodybuilding contest. After a couple of years, Varinder moved into acting in 2012 and made his Punjabi film debut in Kabaddi Once Again. He also worked in Hindi films, including Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans, Marjaavaan, and Tiger 3, where he played a Pakistani prison guard named 'Shakeel.'
