On February 27, 2026, Vijay Thalapathy’s wife, Sangeetha filed for a divorce after 27 years of their marriage. In the divorce plea, Sangeetha Sornalingam claimed that Vijay has allegedly been involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress, which caused deep trauma and pain to her. Reportedly, the hearing in the case is scheduled for April 20, 2026. According to reports, the divorce petition can be read as:

"The Respondent (Vijay) was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress. This caused her deep emotional pain and mental suffering, amounting to betrayal and violation of marital trust."
