Who Are Kayla Noel Day And Luke Daley? New Names Emerge In Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Case

The manhunt for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of popular American broadcaster Savannah Guthrie, has stretched into day 16, and there are no traces of her yet. Initial investigation confirmed that Nancy was taken against her will from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1, 2026, and the FBI later recovered a doorbell camera footage showing a masked perpetrator on her front door.

The officials recently cleared the names of Nancy Guthrie's family, including her children, Savannah, Annie, and Camron, and her sons-in-law, Tommaso Cioni and Michael Feldman. While no suspect has been identified yet, two previously unknown names are now dominating online conversation: Kayla Noel Day and Luke Anthony Daley. But who are they? Here's what we actually know.

A Gray Range Rover has been seized near Nancy Guthrie's AZ home

In the late hours of Thursday, February 12, 2026, law enforcement officials conducted a traffic stop involving a late-model gray Range Rover in the Catalina Foothills area, just a few miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home. Officials reportedly seized the SUV from a parking lot near a Culver's restaurant, erecting a sheet around the vehicle as forensic teams photographed and processed it. The Range Rover's driver was also detained for questioning and was later released.

At the same time, a SWAT team was deployed at a nearby residence for a separate operation related to Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping investigation. According to reports, the team had taken in multiple individuals from the area for interviews and later released them. Authorities also confirmed that several other vehicles were towed from the property, including a blue Subaru SUV and a white van that were seized the previous week.

Not long after seizing the gray Range Rover from the Culver's restaurant parking lot, the authorities detained an individual named Kayla Noel Day from her residence at 11 p.m. on February 12, 2026. Just a day later, on February 13, a SWAT team arrested another individual, Luke Anthony Daley. The timing of their arrests was verified from official arrest records, but law enforcement hasn't disclosed the specific charges against them. For now, it remains unconfirmed whether the two detained individuals have any connection with the broader investigation into finding Nancy Guthrie.

Although the charges against them aren't known yet, speculation is rife that Kayla Day may be related to Nancy Guthrie through alleged family ties. Ever since reports of her detention surfaced, social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit have been filled with discussion and unverified reports stating that Kayla is a niece of Nancy Guthrie and was also connected to the gray Range Rover. However, the officials have not verified any familial relationship between Nancy and Kalya.

Luke Daley, another individual reportedly detained in connection with the investigation, has also been the subject of online claims suggesting he may be related to Nancy Guthrie. However, authorities have not confirmed any such relationship. The reports of his arrest or direct involvement also remain unsubstantiated for now. While the rumours have spread widely on social media, there has been no corroboration from the FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Chris Nanos, who has been actively involved in Nancy Guthrie's investigation, has publicly pushed back against the various pieces of misinformation circulating online. He recently confirmed that the Guthrie family, including Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, has been fully cooperative and should be viewed as victims.

Responding to the online accusations against Nancy's family members, Sheriff Nanos described them as "wrong" and "cruel". With more than 100 law enforcement officials now involved in the investigation, the sheriff has warned that unverified speculations have further complicated the case and added further distress to Nancy's family.

Nancy was last seen on January 31, 2026, at her home in the Catalina Foothills near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Tucson. When deputies arrived the following morning, they discovered evidence that indicated she had been taken against her will. The FBI later released doorbell camera footage showing a masked individual at her front door.

As the video circulated, online speculation quickly intensified, with rumors suggesting that Nancy’s son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, could be the person seen in the footage. A NewsNation journalist, Ashley Banfield, sparked the suspicion after labelling him a potential "prime suspect" in the investigation. However, Sheriff Chris Nanos has firmly dismissed those claims.

On February 16, 2026 (ET), Sheriff Nanos officially cleared Tommaso Cioni and all other members of the Guthrie family as suspects in Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. Authorities emphasised that the family has been fully cooperative and should be regarded as victims in the case. Sheriff Nanos was quoted as saying:

"To be clear…the Guthrie family – to include all siblings and spouses – has been cleared as possible suspects in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, but it is also cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple…please, I'm begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism."

Meanwhile, the glove discovered from Nancy's locality is believed to match the one worn by the masked suspect and has been submitted for DNA testing. With the officials receiving a fourth anonymous ransom note, a USD 100,000 reward offer remains in place for whoever may have tips regarding Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts.

Authorities have not announced formal conclusions regarding motive or confirmed definitive links between the recent arrests and Nancy’s disappearance.
