Who Are Martin Short's Three Children? Know All About Late Daughter, Katherine, Oliver, And Henry

Martin Short is one of the most renowned Canadian actors, comedians and writers. For those unaware, the Only Murd*rs in the Building star is currently mourning the loss of one of his children. While he was married to his late wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman, they adopted three children: Katherine, Oliver, and Henry. Nancy passed away in 2010 after suffering from ovarian cancer. During an October 2012 interview with The Guardian, Martin had opened up about how he and his children had a tough few years after her passing.  

Well, almost a decade later, the Short family is going through another tough time in February 2026 after it was revealed that Katherine had died at the age of 42. In a statement to People, the family said that Katherine “was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.” Amid the tragic news, here's everything we know about Martin Short's three children, including Katherine.  

Martin Short and Nancy Dolman's eldest child, Katherine Elizabeth Short 

Being Martin and Nancy's eldest child, Katherine Elizabeth Short was born on December 3, 1983. A quick look at her website reveals that she has completed her graduation from New York University in 2006 with a Bachelor's degree in psychology as well as gender se*uality studies. Following this, she went on to earn her Master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California back in 2010.  

When Katherine was just a first-year graduate student, she interned at the pro bono law firm, Public Council, following which she trained at the West LA Veterans Administration. After finishing her Master's programme, Katherine found work at UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, where she remained for more than four years. Later, she worked at the dual diagnosis outpatient program at Camden Centre.  

In her later years, Katherine worked in a private practice as a licensed clinical social worker. Additionally, she worked part-time at the Amae Health clinic, which specialised in community outreach, psychotherapy, peer support, and family support groups. That is not all; Catherine was reportedly involved with a charity called Bring Change 2 Mind, whose main focus was to eliminate the stigma often associated with mental health.  

Back when Nancy Dolman was still alive, she and Martin took their daughter, Katherine, to The Producer's afterparty in May 2003. Over the years, she has also attended a few more events, such as the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in February 2011, Bette Midler's New York Restoration Project, “Hulaween” event, and so on.  

The tragic news of Katherine's death was announced in late February 2026. Several reports online claim that on February 23, 2026, a call was made to the Los Angeles Police Department from a Hollywood Hills home regarding a possible su*cide. The Short family said in a sentence: 

"It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time.” 

Martin Short's second child, Oliver Patrick Short  

Oliver Patrick Short is the second child of Martin Short and Nancy Dolman. He was born on April 29, 1986. For college, he went to the University of Notre Dame. It is worth noting that during his time here, he was the women's ice hockey coach as well as the men's snowboard captain. Oliver graduated with a degree in film and television production from the college in 2008.  

Although he did not choose a career in front of the camera like his father, Martin Short, he chose to make a name for himself behind the scenes in the industry. For instance, Oliver has previously worked at Warner Bros. Pictures as an executive assistant. The same was confirmed by Martin during his interview with The Guardian in 2012.

Later, he also worked at Fox News, NBC Sports, and the MLB Network, holding various production roles. Like Katherine, Oliver has also appeared at a number of industry events alongside Martin Short. For instance, in August 2006, he was present along with his two siblings at the afterparty of Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me.  

Martin Short and Nancy Dolman's third child, Henry Hayter Short  

Henry Hayter Short is the youngest of the three siblings, having been born on August 4, 1989. Like his elder brother Oliver, he also attended the University of Notre Dame. Here, Henry was a member of the fishing club and the men's water polo club team. Another similarity he has with Oliver is that he, too, served as the captain of the ski and snowboard club. He graduated from the college with a Bachelor's degree in finance in 2012.  

After college, Henry began his career as a managed solutions group consultant at the Royal Bank of Canada. Later, he moved on to the role of an analyst. According to People, Henry works as a veterinary assistant at the Malibu Coast Animal Hospital.  

Henry has attended several industry events with both of his parents while growing up. When he was still a teenager, he went to the premiere of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. He even walked the red carpet with Martin at the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards and later, in July 2017, at the Take Off, Eh: An All-Star Benefit.
