Jack White is an American rock musician, singer, songwriter, and producer, best known as the frontman of the garage rock duo, The White Stripes. Following the band's breakup in 2011, his solo journey began, with his career taking off through several commercially and critically successful albums, and his independent record label producing high-quality vinyl releases. His latest album, No Name, has been well-received by fans. Recently, it has seen a surge in popularity following the singer's announcement of his 2026 tour. Amid the buzz surrounding his concert, here's a look back at his most memorable show, the one where he proposed to his wife, Olivia Jean.
Olivia Jean is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Born Olivia Jean Markel in Detroit in 1990, she began her music career at Third Man Records, the label founded by Jack White. In 2009, she formed the all-female gothic rock band, The Black Belles, with Ruby Rogers, Chrissy Valentine, Erom Belle, Shelby Lynne and Christina Norwood. Olivia served as the band's lead vocalist and guitarist. She is a versatile musician who has experimented with a wide range of instruments, including guitar, drums, piano, and bass. She also worked as a session musician for artists such as Karen Elson and Wanda Jackson.
Olivia Jean and Jack White (born John Anthony Gillis) had a long professional and personal history before they tied the knot. Jack's association with Olivia began after he was given a demo of her work. He invited the then-19-year-old musician to his record label, Third Man Records, which he co-founded. He connected her with other musicians, and together they formed the all-female goth-garage band, The Black Belles. Jack produced the band's first single and their 2011 self-titled debut album on the Third Man label.
Over the years, the duo collaborated on various projects. Olivia played on some of Jack's solo albums and appeared in his music videos. He also produced her 2014 solo debut album, Bathtub Love Killings. It was then that their creative collaboration began to develop into something more.
Jack and Olivia became close buddies while working together for a long time, which later blossomed into romance. In a 2022 interview with The New York Times, Olivia revealed that they began dating around 2014, describing the transition as a continuation of their close friendship. Their relationship was largely kept private until Jack publicly confirmed it via Instagram in 2021. After about a year, he felt that the timing was right to take their relationship to the next level, changing their status from lovers to spouses.

Creating a historic moment, Jack proposed to and married Olivia on stage during his concert at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit on April 8, 2022. The event was a surprise for fans and marked the start of his Supply Chain Issues tour. The proposal was an absolute dreamy affair. During a performance of The White Stripes' song, Hotel Yorba, Jack brought Olivia onto the stage. Just before singing the line "Let's get married," he presented a ring and asked for her hand in marriage. A tearful Olivia said 'yes', and the audience erupted in loud cheers.
After finishing the song and briefly leaving the stage, the couple re-emerged for the encore. A marriage ceremony was performed right there on stage. Ben Swank, a co-founder of White's Third Man Records, officiated the ceremony. Jack's mother and Olivia's father were present, and the bass players from their respective bands served as best man and maid of honour. It was Jack's third marriage, and the couple is living happily in Nashville with his two children from his previous marriage to model, Karen Elson, Scarlett and Henry.
