Yuvraj Singh Doesn't Want His Bond With Son, Orion To Be Like He Had With His Dad, 'He Was Harsh..'

Yuvraj Singh is one of the most passionate cricketers to ever play for India. His explosive batting, confident attitude, skilled bowling and fearless spirit have helped him make a special place in the hearts of cricket fans. No one can forget how the cricketer sacrificed his health to play for the nation and bring India to the World Cup after 27 years in 2011. But the passionate cricketer wasn't shaped in a few days. Instead, it took several years of his childhood, when his father, Yograj Singh, coached him for long hours to mould him into a professional cricketer. However, Yuvraj did not bond with his father as a child amidst their preparation for cricket, which left a void in his heart. In a new interview, the cricketer opened up about how he plans to establish a fatherly bond with his son, Orion, unlike his dad.

Yuvraj Singh reflects on his bond with his father, Yograj Singh

Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket, recently opened his restaurant, Koca. Talking about the same, he sat down for an interview with Curly Tales and his mother, Shabnam Singh, to discuss his life and cricket in general. During the conversation, he recalled his childhood, when his father was harsh towards him, like a coach. However, he understands his father's firmness was fueld by his dream of watching Yuvraj play cricket. Sometimes, the cricketer did not like following his father's routine plan for him. Yet, he agreed because it opened up the path of playing professional cricket. Recalling the same, he said:

"He was harsh at times, but it was also his dream that I live his dream, which I understood. There were times when I didn't like it, but I think sometimes you have to do things which you don't like to understand what you want to achieve. I was pushed a lot, but that is why I started playing for India when I was just 18."

When asked about his relationship with his son, Orion, the all-rounder, shared that he doesn't want his bond with his son to be like the one he had with his father. Yuvraj mentioned that his father was more like a coach to him than a father. So, unlike that, he wants to experience different things with his son that he couldn't do with his father. In his words:

"With my father, it was always about cricket. I don't want to be a coach to my kids, and I want to be a dad. The things I could not do with my dad, I do it with my son."

In the same conversation, Yuvraj Singh's mother, Shabnam, stated that Yuvraj never complained about his father's difficult practice schedules. Everyone was terrified of him when he was a kid because they didn't know when he would make a fool out of them. Recalling one such incident, she said:

"Once, I got a fake call from a police station, and they said, 'Your son has misbehaved with some girls; please come and bail him out.' The first person he makes a fool out of is me, and every time, I get taken in."

"I actually made peace with it a couple of days ago when I was talking about it to my father.
