Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma have been living separately for a while now. While their divorce was pending in court, the news has surfaced that the final decision will be taken on March 20, 2025. The order has reportedly come directly from the Bombay High Court.
The Bombay High Court issued an order on March 19, 2025, to the family court to decide on the divorce of Indian cricketer, Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer, Dhanashree Verma on March 20, 2025. The report by Bar and Bench stated that the decision was made in light of the cricketer's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League season. For the unversed, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma have been living separately for over two and a half years.
According to the report, Yuzvendra and Dhanashree had asked the court to allow them to get the divorce sooner. They requested the court to finalise their case without having to explore possibilities of maintaining their marriage. For the unversed, a six-month cooling-off period is required by section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act before the divorce can be legally granted. When the couple filed for divorce, they stated 'compatibility issues' as the primary cause for their split.
According to the report by Bar and Bench, Justice Madhav Jamdar asked the family court to decide on their divorce petition by March 20, 2025. This was due to the Indian cricketer's responsibilities in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). For those who are not aware, Chahal became the most expensive spinner in the IPL 2025 auction after receiving a grand sum of Rs. 18 crores to join the Punjab Kings team.
The court considered the fact that they had been living separately for a long time and had also reached an agreement on the issue of alimony payment during the previous mediation. So, despite the cooling-off period, the court has referred to the Supreme Court's ruling in 2017 that if there is no dispute regarding the settlement between both parties, then this cooling-off period can be waived.

It was on February 20, 2025, when the family court denied Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma's request for an early divorce, citing the cricketer's partial compliance with the terms of the settlement. Yuzvendra had agreed to pay Rs. 4.75 crores as alimony but had only paid Rs. 2.37 crores at the time of the hearing. However, when the case went to the high court, Justice Madhav Jamdar ruled that the second instalment could be paid as permanent alimony after the divorce.
Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal's divorce has been the center of attention since the news of their sepration broke out. There was a lot of outrage against Dhanshree when reports that Chahal had to pay a hefty amount of Rs. 60 crore to Dhanashree. She was called as a 'gold digger' and an opportunist. One of her family members who wanted to be anonymous told the Bombay Times:
"We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear. No such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumors whatsoever. It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation."
