Veteran actress, Zarina Wahab has made headlines with her recent revelations about her marriage to Aditya Pancholi, addressing his extramarital affairs and, most notably, her son, Sooraj Pancholi's controversial involvement in the tragic death of actress, Jiah Khan. Now that Sooraj has officially had his name cleared from the case, Zarina revealed that Jiah had attempted suicide multiple times even before meeting her son. This has reignited discussions around the decade-long controversy surrounding Jiah’s death and its impact on Sooraj's career.

Zarina Wahab opened up about Jiah Khan’s tragic death

Recently, Zarina Wahab sat for a candid interview with Lehren Retro, where she unearthed some shocking details surrounding Jiah Khan’s tragic suicide in 2013, when she was dating Sooraj Pancholi. Zarina claimed that Jiah had made 4 to 5 suicide attempts before as well. She was heard saying:

“Iske pehle bhi usne 4-5 baar try kiya hai, lekin iski naseeb aisi thi ke jab mere bete ka turn aaya to it happened. Otherwise, she tried also that many times before.”

In the same interview, Zarina further expressed her frustration over all the allegations that surfaced against Sooraj, and the long-term effects the ordeal had on her family. Talking about her innocent son’s involvement in the case, Zarina recalled:

“What he went through, we know… he’s such a lovely child… of course, we went through hell.”

Sooraj Pancholi’s involvement in Jiah Khan’s case

For the unversed, Jiah Khan was in a relationship with Sooraj Pancholi when she tragically died by suicide in June 2013. Sooraj was later accused of abetting her suicide, as the CBI chargesheet claimed that Jiah’s suicide was driven by ‘broken promises’ from Sooraj, including a promise of engagement that went unfulfilled. Following this, Sooraj and his family had to undergo 10 years of ordeal, until April 2023, when the CBI court cleared him of all charges.

Zarina reflected on the past 10 years, and how the case impacted all of their lives, while they waited for justice to come through. She told in the interview:

“We all went through a bad time, but I believe in one thing: 'If you spoil anybody's life with lies, take it as a loan; it will come to you with interest.' Karma says that. Hum logon ne intezaar kiya, jab he was not guilty (we all waited). It took 10 years, but he is out of it, and I am happy. It has affected Sooraj's career."

Jiah Khan’s death and its impact on Sooraj Pancholi’s acting career

Jiah Khan was a model, actress and singer who mainly worked in Hindi cinema. The 25-year-old actress, known for her roles in films like Nishabd and Ghajini, was found dead at her Juhu residence in Mumbai on June 3, 2013. After her death, a 6-page letter was found in Jiah’s apartment where she had accused Sooraj of making fake promises, cheating and lying.

After 10 years of ordeal, the court ruled that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to hold Sooraj responsible for her death. Zarina revealed that Sooraj is gradually overcoming the trauma of this decade-long fight, and is already preparing for his upcoming project, which is now approaching completion.
