Ya Ali singer, Zubeen Garg's untimely demise left the entire nation in a state of mourning. The Assam government had announced a 3-day mourning period after the demise of the Assamese singer, who passed away during an alleged scuba diving incident in Singapore on September 19, 2025. The funeral of the 52-year-old singer saw thousands of people attending the same in Guwahati, and days post his demise, Zubeen's second post-mortem report was handed over to his wife, Garima Saikia.
The Assam police gave Zubeen's second autopsy report to his wife, Garima, as Assam's Crime Investigation Department (CID) intensified the probe related to the circumstances surrounding his demise that took place in Singapore. An officer from the CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT) personally delivered the report to Garima's home in Kahilipara, located in Guwahati. The handover of the same came two days post she got reports of the first post-mortem, which was conducted in Singapore.
The authorities revealed that Zubeen passed away in 'mysterious circumstances'. The second post-mortem of Zubeen had taken place at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), and Special Investigation Team (SIT) officer, Moramee Das had delivered the documents to Garima at her house. The investigations related to Zubeen's demise have yet to begin. Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, had earlier stated that the decision regarding the release of Zubeen's second post-mortem report would be made entirely by Zubeen's wife. Zubeen's memorials reportedly will be established at Kamarkuchi, where he was cremated with state honour. The late singer had spent formative years of his life in Kamarkuchi, Jorhat.
Earlier, Garima had also recorded her statement in the presence of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and had also shared all her relevant documents. For those who are unaware, the Assam government has decided to pay tribute to Zubeen, a cultural icon, by distributing his ashes to various individuals and organisations through an online application system. Garima, while recording her statement told the reporters:
"We need justice as soon as possible. That is my prayer to the judicial system. I want to know what exactly happened that we lost him. We will cooperate with the law."
Garima reportedly gave a statement to the media, stating that she had to cooperate and maintain faith in the system. She believes that if anyone is found guilty of wrongdoing, they must face the ultimate punishment. She even shared that it was the court's decision whether to make Zubeen's post-mortem public. She shared:

"I trust in the legal system and in law. In the case of Zubeen Garg, nothing will be neglected. He must get justice."
Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) and SIT member, Moramee Das, had earlier spoken to the reporters located outside Garima and late Zubeen's home. Moramee confirmed that statements from Garima and her younger sister, Dr Palmi Borthakur, were recorded and shared:
"I have taken the statements of both Palmi Borthakur and Garima Saikia Garg. However, I cannot disclose the contents at this stage. You have to understand the investigation protocol."
