So please, I understand and don’t ever, nobody can really say that I didn’t care for him. He was very driven, very dedicated, very hard working, very sweet. I am very outspoken, I am very besharam, Punjabi types he was a little introverted, that’s, those personality things have had a role you know, I feel."

Not everyone is aware of the fact that Sushant Singh Rajput wasn’t the first and last choice for the character of ‘Ishaan Bhatt’ in the film, Kai Po Che! Several actors auditioned for the role, but Vijay Varma was among the few who were shortlisted for the character. However, in the latter parts of the audition process, Vijay lost the role to Sushant, who ticked all the boxes on the makers’ checklist. Despite losing the role, Vijay once talked about it in an interview and praised Sushant for his performance in Kai Po Che!, and said:
"I was definitely in the running for ‘Kai Po Che’, the part that eventually went to Sushant. I auditioned and was considered briefly for ‘Milkha’ and there must have been others as well. When I looked at those movies, I know why the casting happened and how incredible those actors have been."
Kai Po Che! will always be one of those movies loved by every generation.
