Every middle-class family has one big dream: to own a house of their dreams one day, a house that not many can afford. While for some, this ambition becomes their sole identity, for others, it's a mark of respect. However, the question arises how long a middle-class family of four must toil to own a 3 BHK flat in a high-rise building, especially when life keeps throwing curveballs their way? Well, that is what director, Sri Ganesh has attempted to explore in his film, 3 BHK.
Sri Ganesh's film, 3 BHK, explores the story of 'Vasudevan', essayed by Sarathkumar, the sole breadwinner of a middle-class family of four. The man, along with his wife, 'Shanthi', portrayed by Devayani, his son, 'Prabhu' (Siddharth), and daughter, 'Aarthy' (Meetha Raghunath), dabble between one rental house and another as he continues to save for a home of their dreams. While for many a house is a property, for 'Vasudevan' it was a symbol of respect.
The film was released in theatres on July 4, 2025, and has sparked conversation on social media platforms about the struggles of the middle class, the unwavering determination of the family, and the impeccable portrayal by the actors. The film, 3 BHK is not just about a house hunt, but also about the battle the family has to fight behind closed doors, be it 'Prabhu's' quest with studies despite being given the best academic facilities or 'Aarti's' sacrifice for the family's greater good, regardless of her achingly bright grades.
3 BHK will leave the viewers unsettled, as every time things supposedly seem to improve, the family is only pushed further behind. Sri Ganesh has made a point not to let the audience feel settled by the little moments of joy, as the unending fallbacks reflect the never-ending struggle of a middle-class man. Additionally, while a good cast is the soul of the film, the actors have played their roles too well to leave viewers with a pain that will linger even after the film ends. Will the family get a home, or will life leave them in circles? This remains a question that only a visit to the theatre could resolve.
It has not been a day since the film was released, and the netizens have already been sharing their opinions on 3 BHK. A user penned, "#3BHK has a heartfelt premise with relatable content, but falls short in execution. The emotional core gets diluted by cinematic staging and a predictable narrative. Siddharth and Chaithra's love portion was beautiful, and Sarath Kumar gave a solid performance. The songs and music were great. Watchable." Another wrote, "#3BHK: Emotional & very much realistic film! (4/5) Best role for Sarathkumar after decades, Superb performance from #Siddharth. Meetha Raghunath Bold. Song placement Neat & Apt. Many Emotional scenes are Relatable. 3BHK is not just a Film, IT's the life of Many. Overall Worth Watching." A user in a long note penned:
"Such a wholesome movie. About shattered dreams, survival and delayed success. One of those rare films that has at least half a dozen highly relatable moments that’ll connect with you on a personal level. For a film that sells the dream of owning a home, it pleasantly surprises you with quite a few touching sub-plots that make the film even more accessible. So happy for @sri_sriganesh89, who has a definite winner."
