6 Amusing And Harmless Lies Most Women Tell Their Mothers-In-Law

Lying is an art, which everyone cannot master. However willingly or unwillingly, we all use it in our day-to-day lives. After all, harmless lies are not a crime. When it comes to married women, we asked some of our female readers and married friends about whom do they lie to the most. And, we got some very amusing answers.

Most of them agreed that they lie to their mothers-in-law quite often. While the reasons might be sheepish, funny or seemingly selfish, yet kudos to the women, who at least accepted that they do lie to their mothers-in-law at home. Let us reveal a few of their good and harmless lies to you as well

#1. “Your son told me to…”

Husbands come in handy for women while lying to their mothers-in-law (MILs). In fact, few women agreed that husbands could be used as a garb to get permissions granted from their MILs too. One of our readers, Nisha (name changed, for obvious reasons), told us, “If I want to go out for dinner, I use my husband as a shield. I tell my mother-in-law that my husband wants to go to a party and he wants to take me along. My mother-in-law will never say no to an approved permission from her son."

#2. “I don’t have time”

This is one of the popular lies, especially used by those daughters-in-law who don't stay with their in-laws. Statements such as, “I have some work”, “I am sick”, "I don't have time" are the convenient ones when it comes to avoiding a meeting with a nosy MIL. Although it might be true in some of the cases, but many women accepted that they use this as a good excuse as well.

#3. “We love your gifts"

Well, it is quite common for mothers-in-law to shower their daughters-in-law with gifts. But, many a times daughters-in-law might not like what they receive. On being asked about their reaction to such gifts, answers such as, “This is a beautiful dress. But, I am waiting for a special occasion to wear it," or "These mugs are so pretty, I don't want to spoil them by using them every day," are very common. But, the truth behind these statements is actually the fact that those gifts were not liked at all and are on the verge of being passed on as good gifting options to others in the future.

#4. “Working day today”

This is also one of the common lies used by many bahus to spend some time with their girlfriends. Another reader of ours, Neha, a newlywed woman said, "If I have to go for a girls' day out on a weekend, I mostly use the excuse of some urgent work in the office." Sudden inflow of work on a holiday might be true in most of the cases, but some use it as a brilliant excuse to enjoy a day out with their friends.

Most women try to prove their worth to their MILs, by lying about how much others praise their so-and-so quality. Yes, some women confessed about lying to their MILs that other people are fascinated with their qualities. What's more? This is a common lie that not only married, but even many to-be married women use to get in the good books of their MILs. Actually, these are just small white lies that I have told her as I really want her to like me."

Although, a woman might not like the idea of the closeness between her husband and MIL; but while seeking help for her own kid, she might get fond of her MIL.
