Nayanthara had made a huge buzz in the media when her relationship with choreographer, Prabhudeva became public. However, the duo ended their three-and-a-half-year courtship. In a world, where celebrities usually refrain from talking about their breakups, Nayanthara had opened up about her heartbreak in an interview with the Times of India. Talking about the same, the actress had mentioned that the breakup had shattered her. In her words: "
"To get into a breakup for anyone is the most difficult phase in their life. When you have to go away from someone you love or vice-versa, whatever the reason, it really shatters your life. But how you deal with it is important. I can't get into how I dealt with it but I have to if I want to move on and live my life."
Generally, it is considered that when celebrities take a sabbatical, it becomes quite challenging for them to return. And on top of that if its an actress, then it is next to impossible since, in the film industry, it is a general misconception that actresses have a shelf life. However, Nayanthara proved everyone wrong and shocked her fans when she had taken a break from the films in 2011. It was only in 2013, that Nayanthara made a comeback with the film, Raja Rani.
Nayanthara has always been upfront about her personal as well as professional life. She has always been quite vocal about the decisions that she had taken in her life. Once in an interview with Vogue, Nayanthara had talked about why she took a break in her career and how she dealt with the self-imposed exile. Talking about the same, the actress had said that she wanted a personal space in her life. In her words:
"I was in a personal space. I didn’t watch channels where my movies and songs were being played."

Nayanthara and Vignesh got married on June 9, 2022, in an intimate ceremony. After seven years of togetherness, the much-in-love couple had got hitched at Sheraton Grand in Mahabalipuram as per South Indian wedding rituals. Four months into their wedding, Nayanthara and Vignesh welcomed their two sons, Uyir and Ulagam into their lives. But, do you know, the much-in-love couple had welcomed their sons via surrogacy which is yet to be recognised in India.
