Rapper, Tekashi 6ix9ine, has been hogging the headlines for his recent surrender for his 90-day prison sentence. The rapper had previously talked about the same and reflected on his mindset going in. Now, as he has turned himself in, here's what you need to know.
Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, turned himself in on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 (ET), to the same Brooklyn jail where Nicolas Nicolás Maduro and his wife are currently being held. The rapper arrived at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park at 2 p.m., the prearranged surrender time, beginning his three months behind bars for violating the terms of his supervised release.

6ix9ine was indicted in 2018 in a federal racketeering case that targeted members of a criminal group with whom he worked. The rapper had pleaded guilty to conspiracy and other charges and testified against members of the group. According to the rapper's lawyer, 6ix9ine will be held away from the general population in the detention center, where high-profile inmates like Luigi Mangione are housed.

Tekashi 6ix9ine was accompanied by streamer, Adin Ross when he surrendered to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday, January 6, 2025 (ET) afternoon to begin his three-month jail sentence. The rapper has been called back in for probation violations following his plea deal in the federal racketeering and firearms case. However, before saying goodbye to the world for the next 90 days, Tekashi 6ix9ine did an almost two-hour-long live stream on Adin's channel.

In the live stream, Tekashi 6ix9ine could be seen surrounded by friends as they joined him for the send-off. Content creator, Stephen Deleonardis even helped cut off the rapper's ankle monitor during the live stream. While Tekashi 6ix9ine tried to keep things on the up and up on the way to the detention center, vibing songs like Justin Bieber's Baby and Lil Tjay's Hold On in the limo, the mood immediately turned somber once the rapper was turned in. Adin Ross expressed his dismay about Tekashi 6ix9ine being locked up and said:

Tekashi 6ix9ine was sent back to prison for the second time on January 6, 2026 (ET). The arrest stems from a couple of incidents involving the rapper in 2025. For the unversed, Tekashi 6ix9ine was still under supervised release following his involvement in a New York gang case. In 2018, Daniel Hernandez (Tekashi 6ix9ine) was arrested in New York on racketeering and firearm charges related to his involvement with the Nine Trey Bloods gang.

While Tekashi 6ix9ine initially pleaded not guilty, facing 32 years to life in prison, he entered into a plea deal in February 2019 and pleaded guilty to nine charges, admitting that he had ordered a Nine Trey member to shoot at someone in a rival gang. While the arrest has left Tekashi 6ix9ine's fans and friends extremely upset, the rapper himself is optimistic and in a positive frame of mind, ready to serve his sentence and get back to music once he's out.
