Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and director-producer Kiran Rao separated in 2021. They had been married for 16 years and have a son named, Azad Rao Khan. Aamir revealed about the 11 points that he was given by Kiran on, "how to be a better husband". The stellar actor, was given the same after they had separated.
The pair had married in 2005 and, even after separation, continued to keep the bond of friendship. Apart from co-parenting their son, Azaad, Aamir had revealed the checklist Kiran gave him on how to become a better husband. During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter India, the actor quipped:
"She said you don't allow other people to talk. I didn't agree with her, but I wrote it down. I said, 'Hmm'. I wrote them in my notes on my phone. I thought it will be useful. I've been working every day on them, every day I'm working on them."
When in the interview, the interviewer told the Raja Hindustani, actor that being a good husband is an exercise all husbands need to do, he had a different reply. Aamir felt that why only husbands need to follow the practice. Even wives need to do the same. Aamir had asserted, that Kiran had never asked him how she could be a better wife. He would have replied if she had ever asked him about it.
In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir clarified that his divorce had not hindered his life or that of his former wife, Kiran. They would always remain friends, and it was seen in Laapataa Ladies. Aamir produced it, while Kiran had directed it. For the actor, being friends with Kiran is important. He had revealed:
"Divorce did not affect our relationship — whether it was professionally or personally. I think we felt [the split] happened organically. Divorce is a word that implies you are leaving, you are moving away. We were moving away as husband and wife, but we were not moving away as human beings."
Kiran had revealed that the creative vision was always the foundation of their equation. For her, divorce has always been a separate topic and as creative people, she and Aamir gel well, as they like each other's mindsets and also trust one another. Aamir, who has been on a long break from work, had also told The Hollywood Reporter India about his next movie, Sitaare Zameen Par. In his words:
"In many ways I feel it’s way ahead of Taare Zameen Par because in the film, the person who was with the challenge in the film, who was Ishaan, was helped by my character".
