Aamir Khan To Reunite With Rajkumar Hirani For Dadasaheb Phalke's Biopic, Says 'The Story Unfolds..'

The world of Indian cinema has come a long way since its initial inception. The industry has made several contributions to society by being a reflection of the country's rich heritage and phenomenal talents and, at other times, by being an escape from reality. However, there is one man to thank for the entertainment world as and how we know it. Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema, gave birth to the Indian world of entertainment. Now, two of the best artists in the modern cinema have decided to pay their homage to the pioneer. However, that doesn't come without a twist.

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani to reunite for Dadasaheb Phalke's biopic

It was on May 15, 2025, when actor, Aamir Khan and filmmaker, Rajkumar Hirani announced that they would be reuniting for a very special project. The makers shared a press release stating that the duo will be joining forces for a biopic on none other than the great pioneers of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke. The release revealed that the biopic will be set against the backdrop of the independence struggle and share the extraordinary journey of the ace artist who gave birth to the largest film industry in the world. The release could be quoted as saying:

"Set against the backdrop of the independence struggle, the story unfolds an extraordinary journey of an artist, who from scratch, against all odds, goes on to give birth to the largest indigenous film industry in the world."

Rajkumar Hirani will be collaborating with Abhijat Joshi and writers, Hindukush and Avishkar Bharadwaj. According to the release, the Bharadwaj duo has been working on the script of the film for the last four years. The release also revealed that Dadasaheb Phalke's grandson has been extremely supportive of the project. The makers of the film have also reached out to Los Angeles-based VFX studios, and they have already created AI designs for the era and period of the film. Talking further about Dadasaheb's grandson, the release stated:

"Been supportive of the project and has provided major anecdotes from Dadasaheb Phalke's life."

Dadasaheb Phalke won't be getting one but two biopics

While the announcement by Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan's team left the audience excited, it is not the only special project in the books. Apart from the PK duo, another collaboration on Dadasaheb Phalke's biopic has been seeded in the South Indian film industry. According to reports, SS Rajamouli will also be producing a biopic on Dadasaheb with Jr. NTR as the lead. 

About Dadasaheb Phalke

Dadasaheb Phalke, born Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, was the pioneer of Indian cinema. He directed the first full-length feature film in India and also introduced female characters to the film. Not only that, Dadasaheb was the first person in the film industry to cast a female in the film. Some of his works included Raja Harishchandra, Lanka Dahan, Shri Krishna Janma and Kaliya Mardan. In 1969, to pay their respect to the great filmmaker, the government of India instituted the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is the highest honour of Indian cinema. The award is presented annually at the National Film Awards to honour lifetime contributions to Indian cinema.
